TH400 Trans Fluid Check

What's good way to check trans fluid on a TH400? Take it off trailer, make a pass, check in pits with engine running?

warm it up, run the shifter threw the gears, put it in park, ck fluid level

I would take it off the trailor, drive in the pits up and back going thru the gears, come back set it in park running and then check the fluid after it is warm.
