Default Help! Lq9 or rebuild what I have?

Alright, my motor needs to get pulled for various gaskets that need replacing because I'm leaking oil. The current motor has 150k on it. It runs strong, but I feel it's going to need something to keep it that way.

I found a complete lq9 with 50k on it for 1500 and was thinking about sticking that in, but are there any disadvantages I will kick myself for later?

Also, I have had several people tell me to get a stroker, but would that use my current block, or would I need to use a different block? I guess what I'm asking is if it would be better and/or cheaper to keep my same motor and put new parts in it (and what would these parts be? Rotating assembly, oil pump, etc.)

power wise, what kind of a difference am I looking at if my ls6 intake, headers, true duals, and lid get swapped onto the lq9?

My goals is to make close to 400+ at the wheels with my 3600 stall and A4. Current hp is in sig

I would dropp in the LQ9 and sell your motor for 600-800 as a shortbock.

Put your heads on the LQ9 to up the compression, sell the truck heads and have a newer motor pretty cheap, and will make more power. One of the only drawbacks to going to a iron block is the extra weight- about 80 pounds.

So, putting my current LS1 side by side with the LQ9 (figure I have the LS1 heads on the LQ9 for the sake of arguing).

How much more HP is it going to make to the wheels? Same mods, etc, just changing out the block and heads.

And the draw of the LQ9 to me is I know people throw some pretty crazy stuff at them, and they survive just fine.

the heavy block is the only downside i see. i would personally try to get my hands on an ls2 if your budget allows.

you should make about the same HP a little more but you should see a increase in TQ- more cubes.

If you have the engine on the side now would be a great time to throw a cam in, and would be cheap to do. You can put in a small cam and make great power.

^^ yea, that's how it all starts. oh i will just throw a cam in there, then you get scared that the factory valve springs will go, so you change those, then pushrods, lifters, throw in a dual roller , a new oil pump while you are at it. you have to be really careful otherwise your car will be sitting for a log time because you do not have the funds to get it running.

there is more potential with the LQ9 motor over your LS1. Just stroke it.
there is a penalty with the iron block.Weight, but you can do weight reduction down the road to compensate for it.

What's needed to stroke it? I know it can be bored to a 408, but what does something like that cost?

Just bore the 6.0L .030 over to make it a 370. It's cheaper and also makes great power (that I've seen anyway). Thats what I'm doing, I can wait to pick my motor up from the machine shop next week

So then my next question is, what makes this 6 liter different from the ls2? Aside from iron versus aluminum, is it only a difference of different heads and cam shaft? Or is it deeper than that?
