Default 85 Monte SS LS1/T56 pics

As requested heres some pics after all the greasy grimy work and head banging on the wall for ideas!!

The car, 85 ss T-tops, power window car, paid 3k originaly came with SBC 350 crate motor, picked up the harwood hood for 200 bux, may put stocker back on now that i dont need a cowl, unsure yet..

The motor!! Deal of century found local, complete 2001 ss camaro motor from pan to injectors with all sensors 500$!!! So i had no problem going out of pocket and building it the way it wants to be!! Prc 2.5 heads, MS3 cam, vengance racing ported 90/90 re-ringed bottom end, new timing chain and oil pump,

further back engine bay shot, better veiw of fabed up intake,

another custom touch, was jealous of f-body ram air, so i cut the core support bent it to a 45 and boxed it all in and extended it out to the grill, from top to bottom 1 row of the montes grill is strictly an air intake now

underneath, T56, 3" true duals, Xpipe, Flowmaster 40 2 chambers,

Interior, nothing fancy.. wanted to keep it all stock appearance, just shift light hidden inside air vent since i plan on turning higher than the 6k mark on the factory monte tach,

Really nice job. Want to do an LSx with T-56 in my 85' SS. But the GTO needs to be finished first.

you are correct! BRP Mount kit and hummer pan, all works and clears great except the tranny x member, wasnt to impressed, its more less a steel tube with bends and mashed flat on the ends, gotta drill 2 new bolt holes when IMO could have easily welded tabs to the edges and made it a direct bolt in, and it must be made for 2.5" exhaust it sits on my 3" pipe... wont be knock sensor freindly !! kits are Pricey but all LSX parts are and i bought the kit 2nd hand from a guy on here so it didnt hurt pocket as bad as new, One issue i need to go tackle is driveshaft length.. i figured it was a given.. but maybe also guessed BRP might have chose mount location to accept a stock driveshaft.. no dice.. its 1"ish too long

Thanks for compliments

Sweet looking pics! Nice job! I wonder how quick your car is going to run with the PRC heads and the MS3 cam. Should really haul. Good luck with her and keep us up to date with your progress.

haha im curious myself, I Honestly beleive i could touch a 10 sec pass if i went with 4.56's and 28" sticky tires but i dont know how 56's would like street driving, mpg etc, Ive got a drag Monte already seen in top pic in the back .. ill deff try the factory 3.73's even though its gonna bog... i probaly wont regear it untill the 10 bolt explodes all in all im just trying to keep it to be a street top end pulling monster, but any of those thoughts go out the window at the track,

I was fortunate enough to have a spare 4th gen pedal assembly, i originaly hoped it would bolt in.. fat chance.. one good thing about the gbody is the throttle pedal cabel etc is its own assybmbly and doesnt have to be touched at all and GM is using the same hook ups sesign from 802 to an LS1 car.. a NON Cruise control cable is direct replacement for throttle cable youll need, , i wound up using the original brake pedal assyembly and pedal off the monte and cutting and drilling all the welds to seperate Just the 4th gen fbodys clutch pedal and adding it to the montes brake pedal bracket by drilling it out bigger and using teh 4th gens big tie bolt for its pedals,,,then a whole lot of trimming and bending and cussing!! Pedals were byfar the worst part of the swap.. nothing simple and bolt in about it. be prepared to annoyed, do your self a favor and pull the whole steering collum out, youll need that much more room under there space is extremely limited with the fuse block down there I was also lucky enough i still had a mcleod adj master in my garage, i shot it thru the pre existing circular hole the 6 pin connector and VAc hose for cruise goes thru, i cut the brake pedal on the monte the same dimension as the 4th gens and stole its ABS pedal rubber, my pedals are a lil close and the throw seems a lil 2 short i may be going back amd putting more work to the clutch pedal.. i dread it

Nice job on the conversion. I am gathering parts to do something similar in an 87 Buick Regal that I have. How was the fitment of the BRP headers and how low did the LH8 pan hang below the cross member? I am curious because I also have the BRP kit and the LH8 pan. I am also not happy with the BRP cross member for the same reason as you are. I wish John Bzdel was back in the states because I like his set up the best. Thanks Rich

What size headers did you end up using? Were they 1 3/4 0r 1/78? or a combination?

Thanks,

Matt
