Default LS6 cam & valve upgrade question

I have a 99 LS1 engine that I am using for a winter project. I'm keeping this low budget, as this is just a spare and I'm just looking to get some experience working on an LS1 engine. If I put in the LS6 cam and valves, and Comp 918 springs (springs were installed by the previous owner), I should be approaching the performance. of the LS6. Milling the heads .010" should put the compression in the 64.6 cc range. Some mild hand porting and an LS6 intake and exhaust should get me there. (with tuning). Anything I'm missing?
One other question. This engine will probably be stored for some time. Is it a good idea to remove the pushrods to relieve the pressure on the springs?
