Gen 5 Camaro Internal Engine Tech - new camaro owners, what would be a fair price

for a CAI?

I have seen some selling for 350.00 and more, and IMO thats just complete nonsense!

We will have an SS in our shop on next tuesday and will be designing a CAI for it. We plan on mass producing them and selling them. I would like to know what some owners think a fair price would be?

I think the neighborhood of 200.00 would be fair, and should sell like hotcakes.

oh, this car is completely stock as well. we will have before and after dyno numbers with our CAI kit on the car.

I don't own a new camaro, but 400.00 for a cold air intake is absolute rape. It's a piece of plastic with a filter on it!

I would say 150.00 for a new piece would be a fair price.

I think $200 is a fair price, you will definitely sell a ton at that price point considering the competition. It won't be hard for vendors to under cut the current pricing on almost everything. Good luck to you,

I think thats a little low. By the time you figure materials, a filter (K&N of course) powder coating the parts, really nice packaging etc, I could easily have over a hundred bucks invested in one, not to mention the time. This will be relatively simple, but there is some minor fab work involved for the MAF.

so Im thinking more along the lines of 189.00 or 199.00

I wont know for sure untill I actually get one made up and see exactly how much money I have invested in the project.

rest assured though, it will be a but load cheaper than what is currently being offered.

I don't own a new camaro either (yet), but I agree, whats out there on the market now is damn ridiculous as far as pricing goes. If you can get one on the market for under $200 then you will have a hot product on your hands no doubt! :cool: Good luck. I hope you can pull through with this. :thumb:

Why shoot yourself in the foot so early in production? You also should consider development and testing costs, as well as any tooling costs. That is the main reason new parts start out higher priced, and then eventually drop in price as more are sold.

I'd say $299 is a fair starting price, and it should hopefully help cover some up-front costs. Eventually, I can see $175-200 being about normal.

My camaro should be here in a week or so. I can tell you that I will never spend more than $300 for a CAI. Never. But $200 is good and I would recommend that to everyone with a new Camaro. $400 for a CAI is like SLP charging $400 to remove the rear mufflers and add new tips when local mufflers shops will remove the rear mufflers for $50 out the door.

photos of the electric cutouts we have been working on today. We should be starting on fabbing up the CAI in the next hour or so. I will keep everyone posted.

These motors just make incredible power right out of the box. tuning alone would get this car real close to the 400rwhp mark.

It didnt make anymore power with the cutouts open though, and I dont really get that. I suppose the cats are killing it. It made a bit more torque.

Well, if you can get GM to certify the part like they did SLP. You can charge whatever you want.

If I were selling your product I would sell the gains. If their are no or little gains. Or the first time a dealer sees it the customers new car warrany goes into the can, it's worth nothing. :D

200 range sounds like a reasonable start. suggest you offer an option for the AEM dryflow as a K&N alternative.

all this just reminds me about how badly i need to clean my filter...

its not rocket science. you use a smooth tube that is mandrel bent and put a high quality filter on the end of it.

it makes what it makes.

considering the factory set up isnt nearly as restrictive as we have seen on past models, I would say 20 horse is a far stretch.

of course, I can manipulate my dyno to say whatever you like....but we dont do that here. Ill post real world numbers and people can decide for themselves if its worth 200.00 or 219.00 or whatever the final price ends up being.

im interested in this... friend of mine is going to need one of these in a few months

I think 200 is a great price for a newly designed CAI that gives decent gains. You can corner the market early while others are selling for 300+.
