Default 4.10 or 4.56

I want to do gear's in my 10 bolt, and I dont have the cash to do 9" or a 12 bolt so I am stuck with the stock rear end.Now do i use 4.10 or 4.56 with a m6. Witch one would u use,and why. I am running a 3.42 now with 125 shot.how much harder will the gears make it pull, and will it help me in my mph and et times if so how much ?

The gears will help quite a bit.

With an M6 and a 125 shot, I would imagine traction is an issue without sticky tires. The gears will make that problem worse. When you run sticky tires, your rear is not going to survive long. A couple broken 10 bolts would get you a long way towards a 12 bolt or 9 in. Do some research in this forum.

If you must, go with the 4.10s. As you go up to numerically higher ratios, the teeth on the ring gear get weaker (more of them).

The ring gear teeth on 4.56's for a 7.5" 10 bolt are laughable in size. They'll shear if you just think about dumping the clutch.

Go with the 4.10's.....I ran them in my 10 bolt, just didn't put the sticky tires on until my 9''...I run 4.56's now with the 9'' and a 28'' slick. I love the 4.56's, just not 1st gear on the street...I blow the tires off in first with the 4.56's, you'll love the 4.10's coming from 3.42's..

way wrong!!! maybe i just got lucky but i dont think so im not seeing any first hand experiance, just a bunch of "i never did it, but i dont THINK you should". i ran a stock 10 bolt with 4.56s in my m6 car that made 460 wheel with drag radials. did plenty of street racing, plenty of burn outs, clutch dumps etc. and theyre still flawless not even ware on the teeth. i still have these gears today i actually have them for sale

point is i loved these gears! they were fun as ****!!! and with a 6 speed i know i did i hit my top speed limiter at around 150 and was still in 5th so theyll still have plenty top speed!!!!!

Tire size also factors in.

As most have said for a variety of reasons, just go with the 4.10's, especially if you're running a stock tire height. You don't want an extra shift if you car picks up any more speed.

Buy a lottery ticket, you were lucky. A buddy of mine destroyed a set of 10 bolt 4.10's in just 6 days with nitto drag radials. Ring gear is just too small, plain & simple.

Yes unless your running 1/8 mile your top end will suffer some.

i have been running a set of 4.10s in a 10 bolt for about 4 years. i like them and never had any problems but i always told myself that i wanted to go with a 4.56 or 4.88 if i chenged them. So the 4.56 will be done on friday and i will see how i like it. its not a daily driver so it should make for more fun around town. Dont let other people hold you back from what you really want to do. Unfortunetly, most of us learn that the hard way. Now im changing my gears. Whats the worst that can happen, you might have to save and get a 9".
