Default New best with TEA heads and TR224 cam

The track (Montgomery Motorsports Park) was hooking very well. That along with good air helped me get new bests in the 60ft, 1/8 and 1/4. I am sure that with some suspension mods, weight reduction, and better air the car will run a 10.999.
During the run below the tires spun a little around the 30 ft mark so with some suspension tweaking and some slicks I feel that the car will 60 better than the 1.54.

60……1.54
1/8……7.10
1/8……96.08
1/4….11.18
1/4….120.24

Overall I am very happy with the TEA heads and TR224 cam and Yank PT4000 combination. The head and cam combo is very streetable with no drivability issues at all. With the idle set at 850 you would never know the car was not stock with the exception of the additional valve train noise.

I was there, and it was an amazing run. Too bad the staging lanes were a parking lot or you could have gotten more runs in. You definitely could have repeated the 11.1 if you had more chances to run. If the air gets a little better I think 10's could be coming soon. Since you added those heads your car just keeps getting quicker.

Stu – Thanks. I am running the stock 3.23 10 bolt and it seems to be doing well. I know that it is on barrowed time.
Race weight was about 3400lbs.

Josh – I was surprised as well. I ran three times 11.27, 11.26, and the 11.18. All the runs had trap speeds over 120mph.
I cannot remember the last time I saw MMP that crowded on a TnT night. 10s will be hard to get.

J2JSS – Thanks

Great times John. You're getting that thing dialed in. Looks like I better get some weight out of my car, because your going to be passing by me soon. Congrats.

Bruce – Thanks. I think I will need more cam to run with you!
What I need is a 124+ trap speed like yours.
What was the DA on your 11.15 run?
I sent you a PM.

Jeff – Welcome to the board. It was good seeing you all last night. Man your car is flying. Congratulations on getting into the 10s. I know you have been trying for a long time to get there.
Are you going to the Southeast Camaro/Mustang shootout next Sunday at MMP?

Chuck’s has a badass car. That time we raced last night he went 10.12 @ 135.39.

Could this be the fastest 224 cam in the country? I've not seen any faster times.

Brent – I do not know about being the fastest but I do hope the car will run about .19 faster.

Thanks Coach.

HEHEE MUAHAHAHHA... im coming for ya John If I can ever get the time to get my other rear in and back to the track. I havent even drivin my friggin car for 3 weeks

but man, i dunno how you and Bruce are doing it... 11.1's with TEA heads damn, i woulda thought 11.5's would be hard to better

but you just gave me a pretty good idea how mines gonna do in good weather. Ive only been 11.5 @ 119 on a 1.66 in +1500DA, so if I can get my 60ft down to 1.50's and get some -1500 air.... HMMMMMMMMM

congrats man.. i know you were worried about how good your car was gonna run... 11.1's aint nothing to be ashamed of! Espically with a mild setup. The friggin DA out here oneday was -2100!!!!!!! Imagine what ET's that woulda netted LMAO

congrats man! You earned it buddie

Whatever, TEA sucks and so does their heads. The track was downhill! You started at the 1/8!

J/k. Great job John. That is haulin *** for sure. You're one toilet visit away from 10's. Good luck brother...

HD- I think you car will run faster than mine. It always has. What gears are you going with in your new rear?
I have been thinking of putting some 3.42s or 3.73 in mine but I am not so sure that will help me. The stock 3.23s have been very good to me. I have some 3.42s I might give them a try.

I have also been thinking about a bigger cam like the TR230. With the exception of the first 30 feet or so in the ¼ my RPMs do not drop below 6000. It shifts and 6400-6500 and I cross the traps at 6400. I think this is the RPM range that the TR230 performs the best in.

I compared Bruce’s (Hardtop) best run and my best run and I beat him in the 1/8 and our MPH was very close but in the ¼ he had me by 4mph and .03. I guess the bigger TR230 cam and his 6sp are the reason for that.

Bruce’s time slip
60'---- 1.57
1/8---- 7.16
1/8 mph 96.94
1/4----- 11.15
1/4 mph 124.68

John's time slip
60……1.54
1/8……7.10
1/8……96.08
1/4….11.18
1/4….120.24

Josh – Thanks. I think it will take more than a toilet visit to get me there. That run was a max effort run. My race weight was about 3400lbs and we had good air. I really do not want to get crazy with weight reduction. If you have any suggestions on how to shave .19 please let me know.

Raughammer went 10.6 with a MTI C2 (224/224) cam.

Jnorris, nice times!

I do think you should try 3.73's in your quest for 10's.

Further, you need to assess every aspect of your car to find the little things that will get you there. How good is your ram air setup? Is your throttle body good, or could it be better? What exhaust were you running, and could you possibly run less exhaust? It's going to take quite a few of these little things and better air to get you there. The distance between 11.teens and 10.99 is alot further than most think.
