Thumbs up Stealth II cam pushes 3550 lbs to 119.31 MPH

I tested out the SS4000 last night (well I say "tested", the traction wouldn't really allow that.) I was hoping for 119 MPH and I got it!

The air was nice. About -1000ft DA. I got there very late so I only got to make three passes. I think with a few more passes to dial it in I might have gotten 120 MPH.

All three passes were done as I drive on the street. Swaybar intact, tires at normal pressure, nothing removed. 3.23 gears reside in the rearend. The car has MTI Stage II LS6 heads and the cam specs are 224/220 .581/.581 116 and it has a completely stock idle even at only 650 RPM. The electric cuttout was open on all three passes.

The three passes went as follows...

1.79 (I was peddling on each pass.)
7.50
(No MPH given in the left lane)
11.64
118.68

2.12 (Ok, I'm not going in the right lane again tonight!)
8.03
93.75
12.19
118.57

Now at this point I realize that my next pass will be my last. The track is closing. The O2 readings were in the high .800s and low .900s so I thought I'd lean the mixture another 6% on the MAFT just for the heck of it.

1.80
7.47
(No MPH)
11.600 (Didn't quite get my 11.5 I was looking for but I wasn't expecting a 1.8 60 ft!)
119.31

I checked the Autotap file after the run and the O2s looked VERY lean (low .800s to low .600s) but that just goes to show you what a poor indicator of mixture the factory O2s are. I'll go with what gives me the best MPH. It definitely made better power leaned out than it did with the O2s in what most people (myself included) generally think are normal WOT O2 readings.

I'm VERY happy with last night's results! 119 MPH from such a heavy car with 3.23 gears and big 'ole honkin' 315/35/17s on 11" wheels isn't bad! The ETs suck but I can't help the track was so slick. The MPH is there for some 11.1s for sure. With some slicks, skinnies, and some better gearing (this cam really needs 4.30s) it's in the 10s. Now wouldn't that be cool for a heavy car with an engine that idles JUST LIKE STOCK (and I don't use that term lightly)? I'm seriously thinking about slapping some slicks and skinnies on it pretty soon just to see what she can really do but the 3.23s will be staying there for the foreseeable future.

Stephen,

Nice runs. That is good trap speed for your race weight. Were you at MMP?
If so, the track was really hooking well until I left at 9:15.

You should come out next Sunday 11/23 for the Southeast Camaro/Mustang shootout.

Go to www.mmpdragracing.com click on schedule for the details.

I didn't get there until about 10:00. There was about a half hour delay from an oil spill and the track closed at 11:00. The left lane didn't hook so great and the right lane was COMPLETELY useless. My Nittos might be getting a little old too. You gotta get to MMP TNT early if you want to hook, in my experience.

I'll see if I can make it Sunday.

Damn Stephen, that thing does fly!

I saw the car @ the Southern Shootout, and can vouch for the stock-sounding idle.

Nice job "CB" At least you weren't trying to hit 120 on the backroads of LA again. And the car does sound very docile, even with the cutout open.

Nice runs.
I haven't even been able to produce that mph with a 228/236 cam.

Not bad! You would easily clear 120+ traps with a wheel/tire swap. But, its still fun to run in street trim

"Sounds like I need to try the maft on my car ."

Though I love my LS1Edit, nothing beats the MAFT for making quick fueling adjustments at the track.

"I haven't even been able to produce that mph with a 228/236 cam."

Maybe it's time for a sneaky cam?

"Sounds like you like the new converter too."

Oh yeah! Lovin' this new 'verter. I just hate I haven't been able to really try it out yet. I'm sure it at least helped my MPH out a little bit since it has better shift extension than my 3500. It's impossible to say how much since the weather was so much different than when the car ran 117.

"You would easily clear 120+ traps with a wheel/tire swap. But, its still fun to run in street trim"

Yeah, these bigass Fikse's gotta be hurtin' me 1.5-2 MPH compared to light wheels and skinnies. I think I'll go ahead and order the Boggies for the '00 and slap the draglites on this car for a weekend. Time to break out the side grinder.

I see why you used to enjoy street trim racing so much. Kelly and I picked up my Mom and drove to the dragstrip. I asked Mom if she noticed anything different about the car since she rode in it last (before the heads/cam package). She couldn't notice anything. At the track (I got there late, remember) I saw folks putting cars onto trailers, pumping tires back up, swapping tires, putting interiors back into their car, etc... I just pulled straight into the staging lanes and when the track closed I pulled straight off the track, picked up the girls, and drove straight out. No adjustments necessary.

Amen! I run in street trim all the time. I would like to see what a set of skinnies , light weight rear wheels and a few seats removed would do but That will be when I decide to trailer the car out 1 day. My car is 3726lbs without the spare and jack. The 12bolt and 17 inch wheels added some weight for sure.

I weighed the car at the Thunder shootout and without the spare and jack ,it was 3726lbs. It is fully loaded ,t-tops, leather interior with a 12bolt,33spline axels with Eaton posi, 17 inch Forgeline wheels I weigh 230lbs plus 5-10for my cloths. It was 3682 at last years shootout and since added 12bolt and 17's in place of factory chrome 16 inch wheels . Last year was with the spare and jack in car to weigh 3682.
Alot of people are complaining about the npr scales showing lighter than the car actually is, God I hope Not.
