no 2nd gear upshift i am thinking of buying a 96 caprice with a lt1/4l60. it will not shift out of 2nd gear,what do you guys think? it has 152000 rounds on it.

If goes into a neutral like state I would guess 3/4 frictions are bad since that's the cool thing to have nowadays. If it just pegs the limiter maybe stuck valve. First thing though is scan for codes even if the SES light is not on. You could try unplugging the harness from the trans and see if you have 3rd. With no pcm control it will default to 3rd gear. Just know that you will have MAX line pressure and can manually shift between 2nd, 3rd, and reverse.
