Default ~Need new Cam~(383 stroker)

Well im lookin for a new cam. Something BIGGER and BETTER!!! Last cam was a comp cams hydraulic roller 224/234 and .525 lift, 110 lsa. My short block and heads consists of the following:

-383 stoker
-eagle rotating assembly (5.7" rods, speed pro pistons, eagle crank)
-dart iron eagle platinum heads: 2.02/1.60, 200cc runner, 72cc comb. chamber
-hardland sharp 1.5 rockers (will upgrade to 1.6's if neccessary)
-comp cams roller lifters
-TPIS mini ram inake
-58mm TB
-30# svo injectors
-all msd electronics
-3000 stall/ built 700r4

I want to also switch to strikeforce aluminum heads which come with 2.05/1.60 valves, 210cc runner, 64 cc combustion chamber. If i do these it will bump my comp. ratio to 10.5 to 1

Last 383 i built i used a custom grind comp cam. Think it was 248/252 @.050 and .540/.560 lift on a 112 LSA. Screamed HARD to 7000 RPM. But i had 230cc heads ported.

i had a lunati cam in my last one. it seemed to do ok on the street. i think it was too big tho. it pulled good till 7500. http://www.lunatipower.com/Product.aspx?id=1811&gid=251

but i didnt see any increase in power from the other cam i had before.

do you know what your deads flow?

if you find that out comp cams has a cam-help hotline you can call. they will ask you a bunch of questions that have to do with your motor and drivetrain. then with all that data they will help you choose the best off the shelf cam that they have.

if its just a street/strip car you wouldn't want that roudy of a cam.

by the way. i wanted to ask is your car very difficult to drive on the street with that 3000 stall? i've never really driven a stalled car. i'm thinking about making me a daily driven automatic s10.

I have a custom Joe Overton cam in my stock short block L98 with AFR heads (195cc), a miniram and 1 3/4 headers. My compression is just shy of 10:1. The cam has 234/242 duration and .560/.540 lift on a 109lsa. The cam works great with the miniram. The extra cubes should help you. Check out what the LT1 guys are running with their 383 combos. The miniram is similar to an LT1 intake.

Nope, it was perfect, BUT, i was running 11 to 1 compression with aluminum heads, so 93 octane was a must. It too is a street and strip car.

A lot of the guys running 383 strokers and running either the Mini rams or the Holley Stealth ram setup liked running the comp 276/282 cam, the cam is available on a 110 or 112LC, anothe cam I cam across recently and thought about for my 427sbc even though it isnt FI was the Comp 280XFI HR13, I am not sure if you are running retro or OEM style roller cam but this is on a 230/236@.050 576/570lift using 1.6 rockers on a 113LC which would also make it nice for NOS, being its on a 113 will also help in tuning the EFI. I would think this cam would be dead on for the cubes and CR that your running and very drivable.

I had a 230/245 on a 109 custom grind in my car. Worked very well. AFR 195 heads with 2.05/1.60 valves, HSR, 11 to 1 compression. 11.4's at 118-119 in july heat... 10.6 at 127-128 with 150 shot. 3600 stall 3.42 gear, very very streetable even tho it sounded like more race car. Surprising how tame it drove

A hot street strip combo would be the grind i WAS going to run this year before i decided to build a 401 twin turbo motor. 240/243 on a 108 by mike jones cams. I have a 233/233 by jones in my turbo motor, but havent run it yet. His 240/243 cam would put peak power at 6500 rpm on that motor and make well over 400whp...probly closer to 430whp and still be streetable. Put it on a 110 lsa or more for abit more idle friendliness. This may be abit more than what you wanted, especially if you dont have forged crank/pistons and heavy duty rod bolts for the rpms you will turn with that cam.

Smaller would be something like 280xfi for off the shelf grind. Advanced induction has a very nice 230/234 cam i believe on a 110 or 112 lsa that will kick *** in that car. It does well in 383 LT1's and miniram is same thing
