I was changing the front brakes and the bolt on the passenger side on the bottom won`t tighting up. So I think it`s stripped. How do you fix that? Do I have to get the whole new bracket? Thanks for any help on this.

Which bolt? Abutment bracket to spindle, or caliper to abutment bracket?

the bottom caliper bracket that holds the caliper on the bracket. I don`t know all the tech. terms lol

Are you putting a wrench on the bolt/pin/whatever it is? The part you screw the bolt in to has 2 flat sides, between the caliper brack and the rubber seal, that you can put a wrench on. It's not very obvious. It you are only using 1 wrench on the bolt it will spin. Sorry I don't know the technical name of that part. I just changed my pads this morning. I'll check what size wrench I used.

This will help. I think I used a 5/8 instead of 16mm to hold the sleeve.

I know what you mean by "sleeve" I know the top one comes out but my botton one seems to be part of the bracket? Because it dont spin or pull out. sorry took me so long to get back to this my computer caught some virus.

you need two wrenches, the inside of the caliper bolt has flat sides also

getting a repair manual like a haynes will greatly help in any basic maintenance you do. itll explain, step by step, how to do everything with pictures.

its not part of the bracket. the thing you screw into, with the rubber sleeve on it, is called a guide pin (or slide pin). its designed to slide in and out of the bracket that holds the caliper to the rotor. if its stripped, youll need a new one. if you cant spin it or remove it, its stuck/rusted in the bracket and will have to be fixed anyway. completely remove the caliper, and the bracket from the spindle. youll need a 1/2 drive ratchet with i think a 7/8 socket, or a big metric like 20+mm. take the guide pins out, clean any rust off them with fine sandpaper, and luve with proper brake lube (any parts store has it). try and get the lower guide pin out. youll probably need to twist it out with pliers. hit it with a hammer, use wd40, etc. may even need to heat it up to expand the bracket. if it just wont come out, youll need a new bracket and pins.
