General Motors' newly-appointed Vice Chairman, Bob Lutz, has penned a post on GM's Fast Lane blog that can be boiled down to two words: My bad.
A flurry of reports spurred on by Lutz' comments that GM was considering adapting the Pontiac G8 into a reborn, rear-wheel drive Chevrolet Caprice have been downplayed by a number of the General's generals, including CEO Fritz Henderson. "The G8 will not be a Caprice after all. I'd mentioned it, and said we were studying it, giving it a serious look, because a car like the G8 was just too good to waste.
"That's all still true. But I have to say that, with my new "marketing" hat on, upon further review and careful study, we simply cannot make a business case for such a program. Not in today's market, in this economy, and with fuel regulations what they are and will be."
Lutz is quick to point out that the decision to kill the G8 will have no effect on GM's future rear-drive vehicles, and he went on to say, "... we have a tremendous RWD team in Australia that gave us the beloved G8, a team that we will tap into at some point again in the future for its expertise and sheet metal. Its not uo to Lutz, blame the real buy in charge of GM, Obama. Did you really think that a liberal government owned car company would produce a sub 30 mpg vehicle? a fun one at that?

How the **** is GM's SHITTY decisions Obama's personal fault?!
GM has been making ******* STUPID decisions FOR YEARS!
It's Obama's fault the F-body was killed off in favor of MORE SHITTY SUVs, right?
It's Obama's electric and hybrid cars were snuffed or de-prioritized for SHITTY cars like Aztecs, Impalas, Bonnevilles, etc..etc., right?
It's Obama's fault GM is a giant hulking beast that has too many SHITTY brands cannibalizing THEIR OWN sales, right?
It's Obama's fault that people TO THIS DAY think that Mustangs are faster than F-bodies, right?
It's Obama's fault that GM waited till AFTER their mega-million dollar commercial (Transformers) to really start building the star car in earnest. Definitely Obama's fault that GM was too big of a machine to produce the vehicle in time to capitalize on the sales demand.
It's Obama's fault that GM picks BLAND/SHITTY designs for interiors over strides in the right direction (GTO & G8 are great, but they don't amortize those to other vehicles), right?
Obama does not do vehicle planning for GM, GM does. GM decided that Buick was more valuable than Pontiac. GM decided that one of the best cars they've built in years should be thrown in the garbage (the G8).
Yeah, it's all that ****** Obama's fault. ******! If he wasn't in office, I'm sure the country would be 100x better and GM wouldn't be getting their asses handed to them by Honda, Toyota, Ford.

First off lutz wanted the g8, and the zcar looking over gm didnt. So he forced him to cut the project. Just more government bullshit across the board, if this healthcare **** passes, it will be the same, someone deciding for you thinking they know best.

Thats too bad. The G8 is pretty legit. I was hoping that Buick would pick it up and make a concept of their own when the news came out about Pontiac (maybe call it the GS or todays version of the Grand National). God knows they need help, although they are pretty popular internationally.
I never saw this Caprice concept until now. Looks less aggressive, but cool nonetheless They are pretty fast, and the GXP and the SLP versions are even that much faster. Man, GM knows how to screw up a good thing…first kill of the f-bodies for 8 years, now this....
