I have a 2001 WS6 with the raised air lid, and on LS1.com people told me a 3x3 in fernco straight piece of rubber will work as a smooth air bellow.....will that work?..there is about a 45 degree bend in the factory one.....If a fernco will work, I found some at the farm n home supply by my house so what size do I need?

Honestly...it could work but Ive seen guys commenting on how poor the fitment is. Performance wise does practically nothing...been there, done that bought the t-shirt...and, went back to the stock one.

It's worth the 5 bucks to see if you like it for yourself. I boiled mine before I put it on. That makes it a little more workable.

I found it was very hard to put on and it really needs like a 30 degree bend in it to work well, imo

Is this the same one used on the LT-1 f-bodys too? I looked at Home Depot for one and can't find them.

^^^ The LT1 setup is completely different, its more of a 90 degree bend where as the LS1 goes straight from the lid to the TB

actually the LT1 WS6 airbox is setup similar to the LS1 and some people do buy the femco since the stock piece is $160 from GM  i got lucky on mine and got a stocker with my airbox & a K&N for $115 shipped. sorry i don't have any direct shots of the bellow but you can see it's similar to the LS1 except the LT1 is round on the MAF side and oval on the TB side.

it worked great for me. More of an appearance mod. its 3x3. boil it, test fit, trim. its worth it

yea you have to trim it or it hits the top of the throttle body. +1 on boiling it

i've read a couple threads on using a fernco rubber coupling as a replacement for a smooth bellow and from what I gathered it's definitely workable, tight fit, but workable and the downside to it is that since it doesn't have much slack to it and can't really bend and twist like a smooth bellow it has been seen to crack some air lids .

Not really. I used an aftermarket smooth bellow, not a fernco, and still it didnt fit well at all. Your asking for cracked lids.... Again this is not worth it and the stock one is still the best one.

fitment sucks, I boiled mine and did some trim work. They just arent that great imo.

Mine fit ok. Tight on the trottle body but thats fine with me. It is almost a lil too short. I deffinitly didnt need to trim anything. As far as fitment sucking, its a 5 dollar home plumbing coupler being used on a car. If you expect it to fit awesome, your in for a lot of dissapointments in the future. Its a nice cost effective alteritive though.

for those who don't know ... this mod is usually just for cleaning up the engine bay...it serves no horsepower gains.

^ I used mine to hold my nitrous nozzle, cuz the stock one wouldnt, thats the only thing it was good for.
