Drag Racing Tires/Rear end Questions
ok so i've raced before a few times, nothing serious, just for fun. I have a 2000 auto Z28 w/ LM, Lid, LPPs with ory, and thats about it. Stock rear end, trans, gears. I ran it on bfg G-force sports, got a 2.1 60'. I'd be nice to get that down.
I feel like traction is the issue since there isn't much technique to my launch. The question is do I need to go to DR's to get under that with my set up? Will a better pair of summers be enough or do I need something better like drag radials? and if so, are DR's really that bad on the rear end like I hear? Since its all stock, I figure the most I can launch it at is 2,000rpm.
Thanks!

A set of MT DRs will help that 60',gears & stall will also help. I have 60 passes on my 97z a4 with MTs on. I launch from idle and floor it & get 1.75 60s. So far my 10 bolt has held up fine.

It's really the transmission type and how it is launched that can create a risk for the 10 bolt rear. An auto can survive a very long time, if running 1.7x or slowe 60 foots. Start seeing 1.6 and your going to be on borrowed time.
Of course to leave good a decent stall and gearing is required. In most cases you should not need a Bias Ply, but also, you do not list any mods.

LM, Lid, LPPs with ory. Its a 2.73. My launch technique was Idle launch, just flooring it at the light. I figure I could brake torque it a bit had I some stickier tires. I don't want to get gears and a stall because I drive this car everyday and I like to get a little better fuel out of it(i know its a camaro).
