Remove the y-pipe from that header, so you can tighten that header to the head without the y-pipe putting it in a bind.

Then fight the y-pipe onto the header collector after it's torqued properly.

Is it welded directly to the header collector? Never seen that done, usually there's a clamp or bolts.

Might better take it back to the shop, sounds like the header wasn't properly installed at the time they welded it.

Either that or bend the y pipe apart slightly to allow the header to rest flush to the head.

my y and headers are all welded also i kept having leaks from my tsp y so i got pissed and welded it all together and guess what the leak was still there so i know its coming from one of the header gaskets and i used new gm ones so i think im going to cut it and try and fix the leak then use a but joint band clamp and it that dont seal ill just reweld it.

do you think that a copper header gasket would seal up better?

If you have a gap between the flange and the head, you could use 100% pure Depleted Uranium header gaskets and they wouldn't seal.
