Default passing tech with a bmr battery tray?

what does everyone with the bmr battery relocation do about tech inspection? is there a sealed box that will fit on the tray and fit the battery inside (i run an optima). or is there anything else i can do to avoid any problems?

one of my local tracks dosent mind it, but the other two have a stricter tech inspection.

I'd like to hear more on this too. I was planning the same deal (optima/BMR tray), and figured I would have any issues. Any word on this?

Technically it has to be sealed. Most of my customers just put the plastic quarter cover on and the tech guy never says a word.

The plastic cover, will probably get you thru tech, but honestly you really should put it behind a bulkhead, or in a sealed box like a moroso.

I do like that bracket, but knowing it is technicially not legal I didn't want to take the chance.

That plastic cover seals as well or better than 90% of the bulkheads I have seen

I have my fuel pump in the spare tire well and made this =

My battery is in a sealed box but mounted on the trunk floor, not technically legal there either, since its not to the "frame" so I have it backed with a 4" wide x 1/8" backing plate, if they trust cages to be mounted with backing plates why not batteries.

The BMR tray looks pretty trick. Is it big enough to throw a box in? I ended up using the metal sealed box in the trunk area and mounting the disconnect in the wheel well. Our tech guy is a ball buster, especially with my car.

You're right.... but rules are rules unfortunately. If you only go to one track and get to know the people it's probably not an issue, but start going around to different places like I do (well 4 tracks anyway) and I didn't want to take any chances, one place could be more of a pita then another.

there is a taylor box i found that will fit on it, but it is made for the odyssey batteries and wont fit an optima...which means 89 for the box and 180 for a battery that i dont really NEED. i plan on a bulkhead when i do a cage, but thats not in the near future.

i have an event next week at the one track that really gave me crap about it, and dont want to go through it again.....

I would bite the bullet... Really sucks to have to spend the $ when you got stuff that works. But, safety aside (you really dont want to have anything come out of a battery even an AGM in a wreck) the cost is small compared to going to a track, entry fees, etc etc and failing tech.

with all the tracks around you within 2-3hr drive its worth it to be within the letter and spirit of the rules - never know what tech inspector at what track is gonna have a burr under his saddle.

this is true, and im leaning hard toward just buying the new battery, my whole family owns gm's so im sure the optima wont go to waste.

anyone know an alternative to the odyssey battery that isnt so crazy expensive though?
