It can be done. Lots of work, but I can even run a 15" wheel now. Will not work on the rear, but you can make it work on the front with a little know how. Looks funny obviously because its so small next to a 20" wheel and it needs to be lowered..............alot

sucks these camaro's are so big. u'd probably have to go with at least a 17x4 wheel if u can find one. even those 16s look absolutely retarded, and I don't think lowering it is gonna help. I have a feeling u'd need a 30 inch tire out back to fill that wheelwell. the stock rears are already 28.7 inches

It almost looks photoshopped. What did you have to do to get a 16" wheel over the brakes?

Looks kind low rider

I think the question is "why would you even want to?"

I guess I just don't get it  ........ But, to each his own.

Come on, this thread sucks unless you give us details on what needed to be done. Hopefully you didn't take a grinder to those nice Brembo calipers.

I don't know if 16's would fit or not, but if I had one those would be for strip use only. They would look very out of place on the '10. They were too small to look right on the 4th gens.

16 is way too small, 18s are probably the minimum without it looking retarded

I think the best bet is having the stock front rims made to a 4" or 5" inches wide for the track and buy a set of 20x9's for the front and 20x10's for the back and take the stock rears and put some drag radials on them.

Removed the stock rotor and caliper and replaced it with a set from a 2002 Camaro. After the suspension settled another inch the car didnt look too bad with the small wheels.

This is a track only deal and will not be driven daily this way. It actually stops great with the stock wheels on it. Tha rear 16x10 wheels will require a little more work to fit but it was bolted on and moved around with the complete set of 16 inch CCW's on it. Removed 100 lbs from the front of the car and 65 from the rear.

I know most of you do not understand why this was done. :drive:

Why does one even buy a Camaro SS over say a base model Cobalt? :burn:
I think this:Removed 100 lbs from the front of the car and 65 from the rear.is a pretty damn good reason as to "why he would even want to". ;)

The weight difference was due only to swapping the brakes and the wheels out? Or did you remove some other things?

SSGoat

why not go for some 16" steel wheels with centercaps and give it a nice cop look? eitherway it does look a bit outta place but thats a bigass weight difference..

A++++

Good job!

To be honest I wish my car had 17's or 16's on it but maintain the same OD.

19's are too susceptible to impact breaks.
Expensive.
Heavy.
Very few options for compounds/different models of tires, ect.
LESS TRACTION.

Car w/ driver before 3985, after swap 3845. Picked up a few mph. 1 tenth and 4 mph in the 1/4. 12.66@111 on stock rubber in the rear, 12.77@107 before swap. 60 ft was a 1.89 with the 12.77 pass and only a 2.00 on the 12.66. Track was not as good last night.

Agreed, but at the same time. it looks so tiny. Like a 14" rim thown on a 4th gen (with possible drag race brakes).

I think Gm wanted DUBs all along.

Thanks for sharing the info. Looks like you a need a 28 inch tall tire in front now. I took a quick look in my catalogs and didn't see anyone carrying a 28 x 16 skinny tire.

Were heading out to the track this Sunday as long as the weather holds up. We have a set of drag radials for the back. Should change the ET's alot since changing to an 18" wheel,2" smaller tire and a real tire. lol

How tall was the front tire you used? I'm curious to see some pictures of how the car looks with some smaller od tires, maybe somewhere between those you have on the front and the stock diameter.

All we hear is this car is so heavy due to safety standards, but did GM really make an attempt at losing weight if 165lbs can be lost from a smaller wheel combo or just roll out the dub edition. Way to go GM engineers. How about designing some smaller wheels wells and throw in a SRA for a Camaro with decent weight. No telling where else they could shave some fat off.

Love the looks of the new Camaro, but it doesn't appear they put too much thought into anything else.

That couldn't be further from the truth. It's a well rounded great performing car. Problem is the market has dictated larger wheels and much more luxury. Sure they could have put 16" wheels, an SRA and manual windows in the car but not as many people would buy it. The enthusiests will do exactly what orangechevyII did, inovate. I'm excited to see what people do with these cars and how well we can make them perform in the next year or so. 100 lbs. off the front with wheels and brakes is pretty impressive. I'm hoping to find out if 18" vette wheels fit on the back of the 5th gen. this weekend.

I would blame the designers, not the engineers! I would have rather seen a smaller 18" rim as well.

So are you saying with for a fourth gen you could remove the caliper and rotor and would be able to fit the brakes from the 5th gen up there and it would bolt right up?

OrangeChevyII
08-02-2009, 11:31 AM
No, the holes are wider spread on the 5th gen. You would have to drill them out to make them work.
