Default Best inexpensive Heads & Cam package??

Hi guys,

I know everyone on here has had this question asked before. Ive spoken to alot of companies, shops, that make heads & cams and they all seem to be good.
I just wanna know from you guys, the purchasers, whats the best "PROVEN" heads & cam setup to give the most Torque and horsepower for an "LS1" ?? Where do I buy from and how much did YOU pay??

Im gettig the Dana 60 rearend and driveshaft, clutch, etc. But now its cam & headers time.

Thanks guys

Either get whatever heads you have ported or pickup some 243 ls6 heads.

As far as price and performance I dont think you will beat Texas speed and performance, they are a sponsor on this site and they can get you into great set of heads, I have the PRC stage 2.5 5.3 heads for about 1200 bucks, and that is a price that is fantastic. Talk to them and they will spec you out a custom cam if you dont want an off the shelf one. Super guys and I will recommend them to anyone.
There are a ton of guys on this site with TSP head and cam combos posting super numbers and track times. Hope this helps. If money was no object I would say the trick flow heads, but they are more than twice the tsp heads.

How much power do you want? Daily Driver? Track Car? M6? A4? Way to many questions to answer. But Texas-Speed has just about the best deal on a head/cam setup. Prc 2.5 5.3 and a 224r cam. Stage 2 ls6 heads 228r....Tv2, Tv3, ms3, ms4 ...so many options to choose from.

Well I have an 01 camaro ss, LS1 stock, 6 speed, daily driver and track. I want the most power possible from this block. Trickflow sounds like the best however, PRC sounds reasonable.

Anymore suggestions please

Here is my setup:

TSP stage 1 ls6 heads milled to 59cc (ended up costing me ~$800)
LS6 intake (~$300)
Bosch injectors (~38's?) ($100)
MTI G1 cam (228/232 high 500's lift) (came with the car, don't think it is made anymore, but I'm sure there are better cams out there).
Tuned by Mike Norris.

439/411 (Yes I know it is in STD but Mike's dyno supposedly reads low.

We're finishing up another new camshaft that's under 230 duration that combined with a PRC Stage 2.5 LS6 or 2.5 5.3l should do very well. Either of those combos are well under $2000 with cam & pushrods!!

Jason from Texas speed, hey I want to buy your PRC stg 2.5 LS6 cnc ported heads. However, I want you to find or custom grind Me the "Torquiest" Cam for these heads. These heads have a lift of up to .660 lift so I want a cam that can lift to at least .650. Let Me know ok, then I buy. Remember Torque, low to high power band pls, thanks

I think because trickflow makes there own casting vs teaxs speed that takes gm head and turn it into a master pice. Its about how much work goes into the head. I think imho texas speed has a dam good program for their heads and cams. Im not a **** rider I have never purchase anything from them. But I always see their head and cam combos putting down 400+ on 346.

I guess texas-speed is the way to go. I seen some trickflow heads for 1700.00 per set. What about patriot heads are they any good? DART & AFR'S are they a good head also?

does tsp give you credit if you send them 243's?

vettett15-sounds like a pretty sweet combo, ive been looking into the stage 1 243's as well. how did you get them for 800?

check out patriot heads too they are usually around 1200 witch is pretty good. i got my heads for 1285 fully assembled (springs, valves). AFR's are very expensive and i dont see why they would be any better then a package from tsp or patriot heads especialy when you can get heads, cam, and push rods from TSP for less then just heads from AFR or trick flows. But remember to pick your heads for what you want down the road for example you dont want 5.3 heads if your are going to go FI eventually or you wouldnt want to get 72cc combustion chambers in your heads and lower your compression if you want an NA engine there is lots of choices for heads and cam out there just do your research before you buy one and youll be happy with what you get.

When i comes to a lot of things, you get what you pay for.

There are some great cams that can often do 380-400 rwhp alone.

I am torn on the cyl head issue as the head I would put on is a TFS but with the cost and requirement of roller rockers on a smaller bore motor like the stock 346 and IF/WHEN I blow it and go up to a 4.000+ (or more cyl bore) then the heads may not be optimal and the cyl head choice opens up dramatically. I am honestly expecting never to put a improved cyl on the motor unless I fucked one up and I didnt have the $$$ for a new bullet.
