Dynamometer Results & Comparisons - Low dyno numbers w/ 228R

I just got my car running and I feel like the numbers are a little low. I put ~100 miles on it before the dyno.
It's a 98 LS1/T-56 w/ 00 heads out of a WS6 T/A and no egr
-ceramic coated 1&7/8" longtubes
-228R on 114lsa w/ PRC dual valve springs/retainers
-magnaflow dual 2.5"-to-3" y-muffler to 3" out (no cats)
-Spec 3+ aluminum clutch w/ aluminum fidanza flywheel
-3" intake w/ rubber and aluminum couplings and a 3" K&N cone filter
-TSP mail order tune
-ported/shimmed LS6 oil pump
-LS2 timing chain
The dyno pulls were made in 4th gear w/ no fan up front. Um... I guess I just expected more power after reading a few threads on these boards. It seems a little lean also (but it smells REALLY rich at idle).
Any suggestions???? Maybe the exhaust is too restrictive?

Well,by the graph it's obviously not tuned. That is your problem right there.
Needs to be tuned in a bad way.

Could you elaborate?

i would get with TSP and tell them your numbers and your AFR. and then they can work on your tune and re send you a new one.

it needs a tune man and AFR needs to be around 12.8-13.1

Tune is off, and are you still running the LS1 intake, if so you need to pitch it and at least get an LS6.

Is this setup in an fbody?

Nah, it's in a rx7.

Could you elaborate?
It just needs a tune in a bad way.Probly the placement of the Mass air is the cause, but still needs to be tuned to get the most out of it.
Right now the tune is dangerous.

you say placement of the MAF, where should or should it not be?

The maf should not be at the end of your piping next to your filter. You need to have it closer to the engine versus on the end near filter. The airflow readings are to unstable right next to the filter.

Depends on the car BUT most cars with transplanted motors need a tuner to remap the MAF curve to work with the airflow.MAF placement affects the MAF readings. Not hard to do.

cant remember the last time i saw an AFR that large. def follow what slowhawk said, esp since its a transplant

I had a K&N cone bolted to the MAF for the dyno pull, so that's definitely a possibility. I called TSP, and they said to check for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold w/ carb cleaner.
I'm installing a wideband soon and borrowing a friend's hptuners, so I'm studying shit on the hptuner boards all this week at work.
Thanks for the replies fellas!

It's in your tune, for damn sure, to start. What is the duty cycle on the injectors? They are 11 years old...
You also need an LS6 intake.
Address those three things properly and you'll see 360-375 rwhp and that much torque too, pretty easy.
Which headers are they? ARH, Kooks, TSP, custom? There is no downside to the 1 7/8 primaries. LS1s like to breathe, both in and out, just need to tune for it. This is clearly the case with yours.
Don't be surprised if you blow this motor if you got WOT before a GOOD tune.

Just like everyone said, keep your foot out of it, and below 3000rpm until you get it tuned. Chances are, being that lean, you probably had 4-6 degrees of knock and might have even gone into the low octane timing table.
HPTuners and a wideband are your friend.
Holy shit. :eek2:
"It seemed a little lean also"
I lol'd.

Well, on a nitrous tune, and an auto trans, with a stock intermediate pipe and a Blowmaster muffler, my car put down 362rwhp.
So yeah, those are low #'s.
Tune needs to be fixed, you NEED an LS6 intake, at least, and if your mileage on the engine is a little high, you may want to check into your ignition/spark/fuel system.
With this setup (if you had a LS6 intake) and a manual trans with a all motor tune, you should see around 375rwhp minimum.

My buddies 04 GTO with the same Cam 114lsa and 243 heads put down 407/394... Its all in your tune... YOU NEED ONE ..... You should be around 380RWHP
