Default MT site says 315/60/15 fit on 8.5" rim, really?

On the MT website, the approved rim width for a 315/60/15 ET street is 8.5-11.

How is that possible? Is it that the sidewall is so big that it can "stretch"? I know i'm not supposed to post asking about wheels and tires fitting but it's clearly written on this site:

http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/s...ETStreetRadial

Is it one of those deals that it CAN be done but it's not a good idea?

Mickey T has the ET Street measurments in tread width, not tire width. I have 26x11.50.15s on Weld 15x8s. The 26x11.50 has a 9.5" tread width so I should be using a 8.5 to 10.5" wheel, but it does fit.

So it will indeed fit an 8.5-11" wheel? That makes purchasing track wheels a lot easier and cheaper if i don't have to use 10-11" wheels.

Ah, did not notice the 30" thing. That's way too big. Stock is 26.1 correct?

Yes you can run that tire on a 8.5 rim with no issues. My old wheel tire set up (15x8 Weld Prostars with 315/60/15 DRs) had been 10.40s with no issues. But like others said, you will need a lot of power to use a 30" tire, and a lot of work to fit it.
