Default 6 inch play in steering wheel.....

This is for a 96 LT1 camaro. I swore I had this steering problems before I took the power steering out on this. I can't remember for sure though. Could no power steering cause the steering to have a 6 inch play before the wheels start to turn? If this turns out not to be it what else do you think can cause this big of steering play. Thanks for any help.

I'd look for something coming loose with that much play, like maybe the Pittman arm. That's a huge amount of play.

Probably the ragjoint in your steering linkage. Get a solid aluminum piece from Unbalanced Engineering and you will be good to go.

Yep I looked earlier today and thought the metal part looked awfully worn out but I didn't know what it was called. So I will give Unbalanced Engineering a call. Thanks to both of you for your help!!!
