Gen 5 Camaro Internal Engine Tech - 2010 SS vs 06/05 GTO

I was just wondering all the differences in the two. I think from what ive been reading the GTO is about the same weight. And the auto have the same hp if im not mistaken. What are the gear ratio differences and 1/4 times?

SS is faster for sure!!
GTO is 400hp LS2, while 10' SS is LS3 powered(420-430hp). Never heard of any GTO toucing 12s stock and the trap speed wont be 109-111 like the Camaro. LS3 is a superior engine and will have more top end, better heads, intake...

What is the SS running in the 1/4 mile vs the GTO. I know the GTO are like 12.9 stock i think

I would give the edge to SS, however, GTOs are no push overs. Goats weigh less than the SS and have been known to hit 12.9x bone stock.

This is a much better comparisson than the 4th vs 5th gen camaro to me since the GTO is more similar to the 5th gen. I think Ive seen 2 race weights on the 2010 being at 40xx lbs from nineball and the other car just below. So I looked up a race wheight for a stock-ish GTO and found this http://www.dragtimes.com/Pontiac-GTO-Timeslip-10396.html
I also looked up curb weights, and GM rated the GTO at 3725 and the 10' Camaro is rated at 3750. I'd imagine those both to be base model curb weights.

Went 12.9 bone stock several times. So have many others.

GTO's have hit 12.9's stock. Bolts ons and tuning can get you low 12's. I like the SS engine and brakes better, but I prefer my GTO on everything else. I was disappointed with the GTO weight until I saw what the SS was going to come in at. I test drove an SS and if I had liked it I would have traded my car in, but I just didn't have the love connection. I felt like a rapper with the huge ass wheels. Both bone stock would be a driver race IMO, maybe a slight edge for the LS3.

That is if you run into someone that is very good at driving their GTO. They are tricky to launch.

The SS has a lot more power. I ran my buddy in an 06 GTO M6 with headers, exhaust, CAI and ported intake/TB and pulled him from a roll when my car was stock.

well what i was mainly refering to was a auto vs auto. They are the same 400hp and its not really a drivers race. Can a 01 SS auto run 12.9 stock?

I know of one goat on ls1gto that has gone 12.6 stock and low 12 with headers and tune. Although probably the rare combo of good driver/car. And a stock SS pulling on a GTO with those mods? That doesn't seem right, cause at that point he would be making more power then the stock SS. Even the stick is only a 36? hp difference.

guy cant drive then, or need a tune. They should be a close race stock for stock. i know the stock ss 6spd are putting down about 375rwhp not sure about the autos. and the stock goats are about 350rwhp

Maybe some GTO hit 12s stock, but I doubt they did it at 109-111mph. This is why I give the edge to the Camaro.
Auto VS Auto, IDK...should be a close call. Same weight same hp.
I would still take a 10' Camaro over a LS2 GTO(who wouldnt?some GTO owner I guess:S) because of the LS3 engine. The LS3 will outperform the LS2 mods for mods.

Not to knock on you, i like the camaros as much as anyone, but something had to of been off somewhere. Those mode you listed would of more than made up for the difference in power. A set of kooks headers alone would of about made up the difference. I say either driver error or his car was way heatsoaked (big problem for the goats). I agree that the Camaro would be quicker stock vs stock, but i don't see it being a huge difference. I love the new camaros though. They are pretty rare around my town and dealers are selling them way over their worth :( .
yeah prices are still high most places
I've only seen 4 colors so far (and literally half the cars were bumblebee clones)
there's a low mileage 06 GTO auto for under 16 locally ... blue/black ... has me thinking

Like I said man, I was surprised. It was a very close race but I was able to edge the GTO out. Both cars had sat at the same place for about 2-3 hours then drove the same distance together before a couple roll races happened. It wasn't a set up race, just a couple friends messing around. In fact both of us didn't understand the results. Perhaps another GTO with the same mods would hand me my ass, but that's what happened.

Fair enough, while the result doesn't "seem" right, anything can happen on the street. But i give you credit for the win none the less. As for an auto vs an Ls2 goat, it would be too close and i would think it would be a race between drivers at that point. I am very happy with the GTO, the car i really want would be the new CTS-V, but ill just keep dreamin for now.

Hey, that's me at #2 on the gto bolt on's......thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Note aside, I can say that stock for stock, my A6 G8 GXP is faster than my A4 GTO was.
I am really surprised to see the fairness of the comments, being this is a Camaro forum. The 05-06 GTO was no slouch and was also a pretty good sleeper if you didn't know your cars. There aren't enough Camaro track results, especially results with some great negative DA, so when more Camaros are on the street and more are at the track in the late fall or winter, then we can have more to judge by and the results will be more complete.
Understand that bone stock GTO runs in the 12's were few and far between, and remember the results have been posted on ls1gto forums since 2005. That's a lot of runs to get a good time.
My guess is that the (stock for stock) 05-06 GTO is about .1 slower than the LS3 Camaro, but faster than the auto. 05-06 GTO vs. LS3, most likely a drivers race, again slight edge to the Camaro.

So far, they've only been run in summer conditions. Still, I'm a little surprised, given the factory numbers, that no one on that list has hit 110mph yet. Most are pretty far off that number. In fact, the list looks about like the range that stock f-bodies ran in, from factory freaks to slowmo's. But as you say, the numbers should look better by wintertime.

The GTO is a great car, I like them a lot. I would give the A4 GTO the nod over the A6 Camaro just based on the problems some are having right now. I haven't had the opportunity to ride one yet so I don't have an accurate way to compare them. The M6's are a different story. I think a lot of people will be surprised when they start to run in low DA and low temps this fall.

My 05 auto is 3850 with me in it(160). That was on stock 18s, half a tank of gas and spare/jack removed. I cant complain about my gto one bit. I have owned 2 different fbodies prior. With longtubes and a converter so far I have gone 8.0 at 87 got in feb(no 1/4 here). My 98 auto was a full bolt on car and it went 12.5s with no interior and never went faster than 8.0 @ 86 on any 12.5 pass.
