Richmond had a reputation for quality and durability, however they aren't known to be quiet by anymeans. Motive are moderately priced and are relatively quiet (or atleast the ones i owned in the past were). SLP ring and pinion sets have kept me very happy as far as durability and sound is concerned. They are a bit more expensive than the other two i have mentioned, but for now, they will be the brand i stick with.

i think gm makes the best gear. ive got pics of a 4.10 richmond gear sitting next to a 4.10 gm gear and the gm gear is bigger with more meat on it. and they are 3 cut gears while most aft. are 2 cut gears. that helps them be quiet.

Yup, definately should have put OE gearsets in the poll, when I buy I would rather have a nice set of used factory gears than aftermarket ones.

the older s-10's that had a 2.5 and 5 speed had 4.10's stock. the stock gear is on the left. the busted up richmond is on the right.

I have a set of GM 3.73s on mine and no complaints.
They tend to drone a little around 60-70mph, depending what rpm I'm in..but honestly I think even the 3.42s were about the same. I think the rears tend to whine a little stock or not.
I had a little mishap when I first had them installed (fucking curb) and the pinion bearing got trashed, it whined loud! Had the bearing replaced and it's been great!
They've been in for over 2 years and holding up nicely.

Does Moser have their own gears or do they use another company?

Moser makes their own gears. And mine sucked from them. Put a set of Yukons in the 12-bolt and they seem to be pretty solid. A little noisy, but that's due to how it's set up, not the gears themselves.
