We just got the car in after lunch for cool down and tear down. We plan to be on the dyno tomorrow. The blower will be the only addition over stock at this time.

It will be interesting to see what a EATON 2300 will do on a 100% stock Camaro through stock exhaust manifolds, cats, and cat-back.

Why aren't you doing 1 7/8 long tubes?
How many PSI will you be running?

Looking forward to dynos and track videos. :)

Please keep us all informed. This is going to be great.

What stages and mods are you thinking about implementing?

Very cool. Any chance you guys would consider dropping the mufflers for a pull to see how restrictive they might be?

Do you guys really think catbacks are worth it?
I was under the impression that catbacke don't make much, if any, more power once you are running proper 1 7/8 headers.

Best bang for the buck is headers, connection pipes and removing the resonators. There are some minimal gains to be had with cat backs (if you've seen how many mufflers are under this thing, you'll understand) but most of the benefit is in front of the cat back. GM finally put out a decent f-body cat back, aftermarket is more for sound...and they DO sound badass. Hard to f--- up true duals. :)

I do not feel they are worth much these days. We are just looking at the most for the customer walking in the door. I have had so many just want catbacks and no plans to do further mods.

I was hoping you would do the catback last then.
I think that would prove my theory that you can get all the sound and performance you need from headers alone.:)

Larry, I have the shiny version of that blower sitting in my garage. Probably start installing it next week, going out of town this week.

427C5, LMR did a cam/headers/offroad setup on a 2010 with the stock catback. It actually sounded better than a few others they made with aftermarket catbacks. The aftermarket ones were too loud for me without cats, but maybe thats because I'm getting old. lol

cool Tony

I think the old comment about the exhaust fits us. I was all about loud before, but now like a mellow sounding terror.

We're ALL getting old Tony. :)
At this stage, I'd rather have the most performance with the least "bark".

It's funny, a few years ago we had to completely rebuild a car to achieve the same performance level that anyone can just walk into a dealership and buy today.
With stock engines becoming so efficient, and tuning becoming so high tech and easily accessible, I'm at the point where I believe the best bet is just adding a blower, fuel, and headers to stock cars and just ENJOY them.

I know you wanted more low RPM grunt after putting a centri on your Viper.
Maybe the new 2300 on the LS3 will give you the power band we've both come to love.
We all know twin screws are more efficient and the better option than the 2300. But, until a company can provide a proven solution, the 2300 is it.

I hope Speed Inc can get do a Techco build soon so they can compare that system to the 2300. Vortech's twin screw looks promising as well.

it's done, but we will not be on the dyno until Thur due to normal business

We will also have a CAI to test Thur as well. This will be based off a RotoFab which we will fabricate the intake tube to blower.

The intake doesn't really surprise me...stock cars are seeing 20+ rwhp and with a blower I would only think more would be expected.

so... bad day to go to the track and try and get a feel for the new setup. The ride was over 2 hrs in traffic and then over 1 hr in tech. We gave the car about a 15 minute cool down and went for it.

car just turned 1000 miles on the trip up to the track
1/2 tank of 93 BP
race weight..I would say 4K

tires were M&H 345/35/18 : http://www.mandhtires.com/store.php?crn=70&rn=380&action=show_detail

2 runs is what I got...Jim got one off and Dan had a clutch pedal on the floor issue.

#1 tried a 3800ish launch with a smooth, but quick clutch release which resulted in a little spin and hop which I quickly pedaled through. I power shifted at approx 6500 ( stock tach ), but it did not seem to like the power shift at times...slight hesitation since I think the flare would hit the limiter. I tried to run out 3rd gear, but just short of the stripe the car nosed over from the limiter.

2.1 60ft
91 1/8
12.38
119.5

#2 was about 1 hr after the above mentioned clutch pedal stuck on the floor for Dan I decided to try it again. The hood stayed shut for the time it was sitting and the clutch still had a horrible smell. I worked the car through staging for about an hr and then finally got the second run. I came out at approx 3200 ( worried about clutch ) with a quick, but smooth clutch release again and had just a touch of spin/hop and stayed in it. The run felt good here...did not power shift 1-2 and shifted about 6200 on all gears + pulled 4th this time.

1.84 60ft
93 1/8
11.87
118.4

We really feel a gear or shorter tire would really help the car work well both on the front and back of the track

so we are very happy with the car considering lack of time last night to get a feel for the car. We will get back out and work the ET some very soon.

4100ish rpm with a smooth quick release

1.71
1.72

We got another new best ET with the car as well.

11.80@117

The above run was after about a 1/2 hr cool down after a 1+ hr. drive.

The Innovators West 10% overdriven crank pulley is on and 3.8 blower pulley will be swapped for a 3.6 tomorrow. We hope to see around 10 psi.

still stock exhaust

We have to get some injectors before we retune since the ones supplied were at 96%.

We have some BFG's to try which a customer so nicely donated as well.

275/35/18 and these will be almost 2" shorter and look goofy, but should get the job done

hope to hit the track again next week if we can get injectors and on the dyno Friday

jamnut
08-06-2009, 01:14 AM
A lot of times people go with a bigger crank pulley so they don't have to downsize the blower pulley too much so you get less belt slip. But I can't read their minds to know why they did it.;) Maybe for once my reply will be correct. :)

correct..we want more boost and limit the chance of belt slip with a small upper.

The pulley is also an 8 rib which we will need at some point as well, but will just use a 6 rib belt for now.

We also took and modified an 03/04 Cobra HE reservoir for some added cooling capacity. We think it looks good and should help out some.

We do agree, but it is most likely due to pump delivery after speaking to Magnuson being the ZR1 increases pressure.

We will try larger injectors and keep an eye on pressure...so small delay on the re-tune
