Default Cam Only Times

The car is a 2000 z28 m6 with 3.42 gears. Mods are cam (230 .578" 114), lid, ls6 intake, mac headers and ory with flowmaster collector mod, catback, and !front swaybar. Race weight was around 3550lbs.

Ran 12.48 @ 115.74mph with a 2.059 60ft time. 'da was around -1000ft. Not sure what the elevation at GLD in Union Grove where I raced. This was on regular radials (sumitonos) and through the catback. The engine is running with the stock tuning. Completely stock the car ran a best of 13.29 @ 107mph with 2.12 60ft time.

Im really happy with the times considering the engine hasnt been tuned. The biggest improvement will come from raising the rev limiter. According to the MMS website this cam in a vette with stock heads makes peak power around 6400rpms. Shifting before the rev limiter at 6200rpms is way too low.

Traction wasnt too bad with the sumitonos. Removing the front swaybar actually seemed to help. Its noticable but not to the extent of drag radials. Launching the car was fairly easy. I was launchin around 2500-3000 at part throttle then flooring it as the tires hooked up. That seemed to work the best.

My goal is to get the car into 11's on regular radials. I think it might be doable. Some mods left to do are: ported tb, underdrive pulley, short belt, fra, real ram air, 200lbs of weight reduction, moving the battery to the back, cutout, and tuning.

Im staying away from drag radials. Had a pair of nittos for awhile and the stock clutch couldnt take it. The pedal would get all spongy and stick to the floor by the end of the run. Then there was a problem with wheelhop. The nittos hooked pretty good but they were brutal on the driveline.

Anyway it was a lot of fun at the track. There was less than 10 cars racing so there was no waiting between runs. Made a total of 17 passes, 5 of them back to back. The car didnt skip a beat. Even the clutch was working good.

Iam running the TR224/224 .563/.563 111.6lsa with other mods below. Ran a best of 12.09 @ 118mph with the nittos at 30psi and the spare in the trunk! I know my weight is about 3670 with the spare and 1/4 tank of fuel. That run was with the SLP loundmouth and the cats in place (FLP Longtubes)....Iam now running the Hooker Catback with the cats removed and hopeing to slide down into the 11's @ 119.0mph!

dug, do you have headers. if not, with headers, 4.10s, and back to some drag radials and you got your self an 11 second car.

Coach
Thanks for the encouragment and good luck with your 2004 racing season.

99-LS1-SS
Getting a cam can be as cheap as headers if you do the install yourself. All you need is a used cam and some springs.

red fury
I love that tr cam. That has to be the standard street strip cam for ls1's. You need some weight reduction. Youre so close to 11's, all you need to do is take 100lbs out of the car and youre there.

StreetStalkerZ
Im still kickin myself for not getting an A4. There are A4's runnin quicker with just a converter W/O headers or cam.

taqwache
Yeah, I got the crappy mac headers. Still I dont think they are slowin the car down. I know 4.10's will help but dont feel like investing money into a failing 10 bolt.

Vents
Im not expecting too much from a tune. I figure the computer will run the engine rich without tuning. But because this year only has 26 lb injectors it can only run so rich. Maxed out the injectors can only provide enough fuel for 420rwhp. This cam has been known to make over 400hp. So how rich can the engine be? Im guesing most of the power from tuning will come from timing and raising the rev limiter.

LOL these numbers seem kinda weak compared to some stock internal cars. What made me happy was the improvement from going from 13.29 107 to 12.48 @ 116. THe car picked up almost a complete second and 10mph from $1200 in mods. Too easy.

GLD is between 650 and 700 feet elevation I think. I'll be up there many times this year with lid/FLPs/cutout/Nittos and a TSP 231/237 cam. Hopefully my rear and clutch will hold up, I'll be shooting for 11.80s..

We just put in our TTP custom camshaft in a 2001 SS with a ls6 motor in it. The car turned 432rwhp through a Moser 12-bolt with 4.11's with full bolt-ons running all belts, no tricks.

Car ran 11.46 @ 121.xx MPH... The car is a pig and needs some suspension work but the MPH was pretty insane for bone stock ls6 heads.

If your gunna race the car........ go ahead and buy a 12 bolt and some slicks. ITs WAY too time consuming for 6 speed guys to try to go fast without a rear end. Us automatic guys can get away with it for a while though. A good clutch, a good rear end, some good shifting, and sticky tires, and a good driveshaft and some 5K clutch dumps should get you some 11's. And then you can work towards the other mods.

11.50 @ 117.1 here with the allmighty A4 mod

Streetstalker has a slow POS so dont worry bout him LMAO HHAHAHAHA j/king bro

bascially all you need to do is find traction and you will have a easy 11sec car. But like mentioned above you may wanna invest in a 12 bolt or 9inch for your M6. A4's are easier on the 10bolts but M6's like to go through them!

good luck... your times will get better and better everytime out as you figure the car out more also
