Default 5.3?

Anyone know how large of a bore and stroke a 5.3 can be safely upgraded to? I got a free engine(complete), trans, and harness with all accessories from a 01' Tahoe and I would liketo spend the saved dollars in the internals.

you can bore it to a 5.7 but the cost is the big thing, just get a 6.0 . you can get good numbers out of a 5.3 as well

you can do a 383 rotating asembly...like mentuoned above the 5.3 can be bored safely to 3.89 bore but any further the block will need sonic tested....all 3 engines 5.3/5.7/and/6.0 share the same stroke...no need for a 6.0 that little 5.3 can be made into a monster...

i say dont bore it out (or bore it to 3.78) and throw in forged pistons and rods and a 4" crank and do something no one has done before and make a torquey 359 or bore it to 3.905 and do forged rods and pistons and put in a 4.8L crank and make a high revving 313ci motor

I like the sound ofboth of these, but the torque monster 359 would probably be more ideal considering this setup is going into my daily driven 94'Imp-SS. Is the rotating assy for the 359 off the shelf parts or all custom?

im sure you could find a nice used 4" stroke crank on here for cheaper

with a set of 243 heads and a custom cam im sure this thing could be a beast
