Default cam specs and whats needed for install

cam specs:
custom comp grind 230/234 .612 .598 111+3 on xfi xe-r lobes
- patriot .660 springs
- tsp pushrods
- ls2 chain
- tsp bolt gasket kit

my guy who i take my cars too says i need the following:
1. ported LS1 heads or new LS7 heads
2. new stall converter
3. LS6 or FAST intake
4. LS7 lifters
5. and of course a tune when all done

this seems like a lot of mods and money that i dont have to spend, i guess what im asking is can i put this cam in without buying all of this stuff...?

im finishing my cam install today(I hope)

but searching and reading will be your best friend. do you plan to install yourself? if so there will be alot of items/ tools needed longer crank bolt, valve tool, so on and soo on

as for your second list since our cams are close, i'm keeping my stock 98 heads for now, i have an M6 but would recommend a stall for your A4, intake would help you, i would do the lifters if you plan to pull the heads or the amount of miles you have on the clock

oh and gears, I dunno if you still have the 10 bolt or not but those would alos be a recommended supporting mod....if you do your cam without the supporting mods you wont see the gains you might be expecting

will my car run fine without a stall, heads, intake? i know that these things will help my performance alot but money is tight.
my 10 bolt is stock by the way

First the ls7 head won't work on a ls1, with a ls6 or fast intake. You would need to change the fuel rails too. Your stock heads are fine you just wont get the max out of the cam. You will need to match a converter with the cam. New lifters aren't a must but a good idea. Then you'll need new head gaskets and head bolts. The new cam needs to breathe so a ls6 or a fast is a good investment.

Itll run fine without all of that but you would definitely see more gains with all of them. BTW dont port your ls1 heads, thats a waste. Pick up an ls6 intake manifold and heads, that will atleast help your car breathe a little better than the stock stuff will. A new stall converter is definitely recommended on a cam that size. So basically, its possible to do it without but you wont be getting anywhere near full potential out of the cam.

lord oh might yes you are fine. get that sucker in and move on, if anything do the lifters now but you will be fine. Then later down the road when you get money do the rest to really open that cam up. i still need to do a new intake, gears, etc on mine and have had the cam in for awhile (i did do stronger lifters tho).

You are going to need a stall to go with the cam you have to get the car to run good, and a mail order tune will do.

specs look fimilar definitly get a stall with that cam. If you have an 01-02 car you already have the ls6 intake. On another note, I might be getting a car with a tci 3500 in it and if I do Im taking it out and putting my Circle D in. If I end up with the car, Ill sell you the whole cam kit and stall for 850 shipped. Not gonna lie, the tci isnt a great converter but you would be getting it cheap as hell.

I dont think the edelbrock clears the stock cowl, go with a ls6 or if you have the bank fast 90 or 92.

Putting that wild *** camshaft in without a stall in the very near future would make the car almost impossible to drive.

Well, it might drive but I bet it will stall at every red light/stop sign you come to.

You dont NEED the intake, heads, lifters, etc but they are a good investment.

Like already stated, the LS7 heads WILL NOT bolt work on a Gen 3 motor (LS1). They need a 4.00" bore MINIMUM.

thanks alot guys for the feedback, i will stick with my stock heads and intake. i do have a 3 in cowl so maybe that edelbrock intake would fit...maybe? is that intake even out yet?
im gunna get the cam kit with LS7 lifters, and save for a stall and gears. sound good?

its been talked about that you would have to cut the cowl and maybe ditch your wipers & stuff

You don't "need" a FAST intake, plenty of power can be made with an LS6 intake. In order to replace lifters, the heads have to be removed. Unless you're doing a heads and cam package, lifter swap would make for one helluva cam swap.

The main thing that needs to be paid attention to is pushrod length. That should be measured, and the very last thing you order before the valvetrain is put together.

If you get LS7 lifters im pretty sure your going to need new lifter trays as well b/c the LS7's are a little taller than regular LS1 lifters.
