Default Cobra guy needs some quick advice

I have a friends that has an 01 WS6 that is completely stock with maybe 6k miles on it. He's an older guy that rarely drives the car. He wants to do some little things to it but doesn't want to get into the internals of the motor. Just from my experiences over the years talking to LSX people, the only things I can think of are Lid, longtubes/full exhaust, gears, and under-drive pullies.

I'm wondering how much power he can expect with bolt-ons and a tune. Also, is there anything else he can do without getting into heads, cam, etc? Thanks!

sorry if I posted this in the wrong spot.

he should already have an ls6 intake if its a 2001,also fan switch to go along with a 160 thermostat, cold air intake, good plugs and wires,he should be around 360 rwhp with all that, and of course NITROUS.

No offense guy, but you need to educate yourself a little more before you start throwing around suggestions. 01 cars already have the LS6 intake, and aftermarket rockers are absolutely pointless on a bolt on car. You did get the ported TB suggestion right though, so you're 1/3

Moving this to the external section since we're not talking about internal mods.

360 with just what you listed or 360 with the other bolt-ons (long tubes, pullies, etc)??

Underdrive pully, ported throttle body, full exhaust, Lid, a smooth bellow if you want to, gears. Makng a seal between the hood and lip and redirecting the coolant flow that goes through the throttle body helps a little.

If you dont need to pass emissions getting off-road headers and removing the air system is nice too.

I dont know what hp you would get out of this but somewere close 340-350 would be my guess. Some Ls1 are more dyno happy than others.

I would say a lid and cat back to start out with.

If he needs more after that, some type of headers/y-pipe and port the T/B and get a tune.

With that low of miles, I say its blower time.

You can get 350-360ish rwhp with full bolt ons.

Is he a 6 speed or an auto?

6-speed- 3.73 or 4.10 gears
Auto- Leave gears alone and skip to a 3200 stall or higher. 3200 will feel somewhat stock with a good tune.

Aftermarket lid - SLP is an example
Ported TB - Cheap and it works, try neweraperfomance.com or a member on here
Coolant Bypass Mod - Do a search
Long Tube Headers - I recommend stainless steel headers like Kooks or QTP. Pacessetters if you wanna go cheap.
Underdrive Pulley - I don't recommend these but it will work
Exhaust - x-pipe with true duals is good power and sounds good, y-pipe with catback (magnaflow) will be a bit more timid. You can always get an electric cutout in the y-pipe to turn on the loudness when you want it
Tires- if he does all these mods, he will need a decent drag radial
Plugs and wires - Get some good ones..

Best gains NA-wise will come from a more aggressive cam / better heads / exhaust. If it's not his daily driver why not dig into the top end?

It's a 6 speed. Thanks for the replies. I don't think he wants to spend too much money on it and he's thinking about keeping it semi-stock because he views it more as a collector item that he drives once or twice a month. He wants to be able to return it to stock conditions fairly easily.

All my recommendations are not insane modifications but can be removed and returned to stock if he wishes....

if he wants to return it to stock easily, then a lid and exahust would work perfectly

I agree. I'm thinking that after he gets the "modding bug," he'll want to go with a decent heads/cam setup but right now he doesn't even want to entertain that idea.

We all know the type of person who says, "I'm not modding it, it'll stay stock forever." .... it all starts with a few bolt-ons and then...

I was thinking 02 was the start of ls6 intakes for some reason. Anyway why would a higher ratio rocker be pointless on a stock motor?

Just raising lift by itself does not always increase power like most people want to think. There are minor HP increases from 1.85 rockers on stock engines, but there's $ better spent elsewhere to get more HP/dollar for your money. Not too mention, the stock valve springs are not designed to handle any more lift than the stock cam lift.
