Well if you are talking turbo cars its not so bad. You can ramp in boost with various controllers like eboost, ams. You can also run say 600 engine hp and simply turn up the boost to say 800engine hp at the track. And how usefull the power is depends on the tires you are running. And you can still usually hook it up in the higher gears. And you dont have to go full throttle all the time you can use your brain and right foot.

Also there are some pretty high end traction controls out there I am looking into adding on to my car.

Corvettes have a superior traction control system to our f bodies.

I can't believe you asked this question on a performance forum. I think most guys like me have wet dreams about a 800hp, 9 second, 200 mph, street car. This sounds like something my father would say. To be truthful a stock LS1 has all the power anyone would "really" ever need on the street, but people have been trying to improve the performance of car since they were first made. Now with EFI and new technology we can make HP numbers with streetcars that our fathers could only dream about making with a race car 25 or 30 years ago.

If you can build a car that makes 800hp and you can also drive it on the street, why wouldn't you?

Anything below 500 is weak sauce. Hell most honda owners I know dabble in the 500s so it takes big power to run with them on the street.

Most of us are true speed freaks. And true speed freaks can never have too much power. Maybe its a caveman thing. Every seen Tim Taylor on Home Improvement??
Maybe its a power or status thing or a dick swinging thing. Whatever. My high power car is actually very streetable. I put in a non lope fairly mellow for a 408 cam.

I have 3.54 gears, I have 9.5 compression ,no solid lifters, super lopey cams, car can get great mpg and I don't even have to go into boost or use full throttle . I am not power limited but traction limited. I know I can dail in 1000rwhp but usually prowl around at around 600 to 650rwhp. Thats pretty good power for just street driving and not much into street racing.I just like going really fast to the speed limit most of the time.

I like the sound of my twin turbos spooling up , I like the sound of my blow offs venting. I like the sound of my evil 408 going up in rpm. I have had friends who have heard me drive by tell me it sounds like an f16 eagle. Thats just fine with me. And its freaking intimidating and if some goofy little 300 or 400 hp honda wants to play and no cops are around well the smack just might get laid down.

Do I need the power my car has .No .But hell its the most fun you can have out of bed!
