The flexplate should be dished. With my th350 the holes for the torque converter bolts were close enough to just enlarge the holes a little. You'll need a spacer, either the GM one which bolts to the crank or the TCI one which just slips in. If you use the GM spacer put the flexplate on first, then the spacer. The GM spacer is part #12563532. You'll also need longer flexplate to crank bolts which are part #12563533. You'll need six of those bolts. Hope that helps.

I just did post some pics on the flexplate that I used for my 5.3 with 700-R4 transmission. I used a 2001 6.0 flat truck flexplate that had the .4" GM spacer already spot welded to it. I got it on Ebay for $55. I had to elongate the holes on my flexplate about 3/16" to use my stock 700-R4 converter. I know some guys use the stock flat 5.3 flexplate with the # 12563532 GM spacer and longer bolts, GM#125453332 now new # 11569956. If you have the dished flexplate all you need is a spacer that will make up for the .4" difference of the nose of your 700-R4 converter. There is a Summit / Hughes spacer meant to support the center nose shaft of the torque converter. It is part # HUP-HP3795 available at Summit Racing. They are around $45 I think.

I had several of these spacers made from some local 4x4 guys putting the 5.3s in jeeps, I will let them go for $35.

Can someone clarify this for me: The ring gear ends up in the same position relative to the bellhousing mounting surface on the block whether you have the flat flexplate with spacer, or the dished flexplate. Am I correct?

Thanks,
Andy1
