Default Need to pick a cam for 409", 300+ n20 setup

Well ill take alot of your opinions on a good cam choice. The car will make weekend trips around town for fun...

409", all forged iron block setup, absolute speed x2 heads, ls6 intake, etc

direct port 300-350 nitrous setup

What cam would work well in this setup?? I was thinking a 236/242 , .580-590 lift @ 112 lsa

Or do i want 114 lsa still?

We just put a 238/242 in a 408 that made 605 on the engine dyno. .630 lift on both sides. Motor idled nicely with a livable lope. It will have a 250 DP on it. Easy 9's.

We are putting a solid roller cam in our 409ci iron block motor. we have plans to hit it with a 300 shot. cam specs are 253/259 .645/.645 112LSA.
That cam you are looking at should be fine but you will want to use race gas of 110 octane

Actually the cam does have an effect on octane requirements as it affects the dynamic compression ratio. I however am not going to speculate what your octane requirements will be without more specific information.

I suggest doing a search. There has been alot of cam talk over the past couple of months.

the cam does affect you octane requirements to a point, but not not nearly as much as the amount of spray you are going to use and your mechanical compression ratio. with a 350 shot, you are looking for trouble with pump gas. depending on your mechanical compression ratio you should be able to run NA on pump gas just fine. once you go over 11 to 1 you should keep an eye on knock retard. anything over 12 should have atlease over 100 octane but not always.

Oh i definately agree....

Im running a dedicated fuel cell with 114 in it for the nitrous. I'll probably run 100 unleaded in the tank as well for the bottle..

Mainly i was curious if a 250@ .050 camshaft is too big for this ls1 that drives on the street

when I made my comment about race gas I was in a hurry and did not really get into it as I figured you would know what I meant. as has been said and as you already seem to know, going with 11.5:1 compression and a large shot of N2O you will want to use race gas or things will get ugly inside the motor. the cam selection you mentioned really did not come into play with that comment. depending on other factors(heat and humidity, etc.) with 11.5:1 you may need more than 93 octane but then you may not.

well i guess streetable is what it means to the the driver. i drove around a 69 camaro with a 260/270 solid cam in it for years and i considered it streetable. to me streetable means as long as i can buy gas on the street to use in my car. if it lobes hard or if it runs at 4500rpm on the freeway so what. hehe. i would think a 250 would be a great street cam.
