i know this has been beat to death but really need some specific answers please. cant afford to spend 400.00 on tires for them not to work and have to sell and spend 400.00 more. right now i am running nitto 275/40/17's on a stock chrome 10 spoke ss rim.... with 470rwhp...... and plan on adding more but i cant hook now........ was gonna switch to a m/t et drag radial...... will there 275/40/17 suffice or should i go with the 295/45/17 ? and if so will it even fit ? i have a 2001 ss camaro with the lowering springs and dont plan on raising it....... like the ride height. whats the most power made and or quickest time put down on either of those 2 tires ?

never going to get an answer to that question. The tires are relevant to the setup and suspension. I am sure either of those tires have held 800+ on bracket racing cars.

I would like to know if the 295 would fit, would be pushing it width wise I think on those rims. But i know some people who have had good luck with the M/T and the M/H radials.

I have MT ET Drags on my turbo'd 99 z28 - they def hook quite well and i don't lose traction at lower MPH when I hit full boost. Suspension on my car is simple, just Springs and Struts and I have SFC's. I have 305/35/18's and they rub a bit on the wall but just hammered a bit n they r fine. I haven't done it at a track yet, but I'm making about 500rwhp and 550rwtq on a Mustang Dyno

Well....... This is my daily driver....... I have an all out race car also...... Just for the track.... But I would like this to hook...I am running a th350 trans vig3000 converter... Only thing done to suspension is remove front sway bar and put in a spohn adjustable torque arm

My 275 MT ET streets hook my 800RWhp gets a little jumpy in first and top 2th nearing max boost. this is on the street so at a track should hook alot better I dont hammer it off the line cause of my IRS but thats more to do with setup

Mikey's are definetly better than Nittos on a dry surface. The Mickey's are very dangerous in wet conditions. Also last about half as long as the Nitto's.

Yes forgot to add this. I will drive my car to the limits alot and i use to race liter bikes.

MT tires with 800RWHP i **** my self going over 30mph with rain. I thought it was just my car even off power in a coast i feel like the car about to lose it

And the wider the tire the worse it is. I run a 325/50/15. If I get caught in the rain with mine, I slow to 30-35MPH and turn on the hazards.

I believe they have a newer more rain friendly tread for the 18" + wheels.

I have driven in the rain quite a bit with my nittos, they are fine but I'm always extra careful in the rain. They suck at the track though, I ONLY bought them because they were cheaper than most 315 35 17 street tires. I have a set of 15" Welds with Hoosier DOT QTP's when I wanna do buisness.

wells i have slicks when i go to the track but for the street i still have my stock 225 60 15 (its an s10) and i cant get traction in just about any gear so im just looking for something decent for the street a 275 width max

I have nittos on my car currently about 600 to 650rwhp estimated. They are ok. They can hook in third and sometimes lower gears depending on how hot the roads are.
They are ok in the rain actually decently stable at speeds up to 60mph or so. Of course you can't be hitting boost in the rain with them.

I am going to buy another set of 10.5 inch rims and run some 295/17 mt drag radials or possibly the narrower 325/17 m and h drag radial. I have decided to run firestone wide ovals in 285/17 on the back for daily driving. Great in rain, reasonable traction I think in third. Should keep me from getting tempted and in trouble since know they are going to spin off in 1sts and 2nd. Long life, quiet and good ride.
But will have the mt for occasional play on and off the track.
Mt are ok for daily driving but they wear out fast and as said are not good in rain.
Toyo has some new drag radials that might be worth looking into. Stickier I think they nittos and think not bad in rain. Not as good treadlife as nittos.

As far as 17" Mickeys go, I don't know, but I think the DR record is in the 6's now on a 325-50-15. I have 275-60-15's on my regal & on the right street they dead hook (lots of suspension parts & tuning) it will pull the wheels on un-prepped pavement. Mickeys won't last 1/4th as long as Nitto's though. As stated Nitto's are much better in the rain. On my car the same size Nitto's would either blow off on the line, or when the boost hit. MT's hook soooo much better than Nitto's.

flyinblue, assuming you are trying to hook in the dry and not in the wet, the mt dr will beat out a nitto pretty easy for me.

ive been a 1.33 short time on the 295/45/17 you mention. they are still on my car.

well...... it is a daily driver but wont really see rainy weather..... i would like the best hooking drag radial at the track but not have fitment issues in my wheel wells or safety issues with too wide a tire on too narrow a rim. if i could pull off a 1.5 60ft i would be happy .

To clarify these are 295/17 mt drag radials? What pressures do you run on the track and street?
Most local guys say they quit trying to run the drag radials and prefer the mt streets but these guys are more hardcore track guys.
I assume you didn't have to do any BFH stuff or roll fenders for 295s?
I wondering if these 295 /17 would be better than m and h 325 /17s heard those actually are narrow and will also fit without any BFH or rolling fenders ??

Get Nitto 555's for the front...275/40/17

Get Goodyear GS-D3 for the rear...315/30/17

They will fit great on the stock 17 x 9 rim. I've been doing it for 7 years with that tire combo on my stock WS6 rims. The 315's wear perfectly and I have gotten 16,000-17,000 miles out of two sets already. This third set is on about 15,000 miles and they're still good. They fit fine and handle great, solid as a rock.

That combo is the best I've tested. I've tried other combos including 315 BFG drag radials. The GS-D3's hook better than the BFG drags "on the street". And in the rain...holy ****.....this combo sticks like glue, amazing wet traction.

I'm lowered too, alot actually with G2 Super Springs. All I had to do is take a hammer and smack the inner wheel wells like 5-6 times each and they don't rub at all.

Never been to the track though. Best I can tell ya. I raced my friend several times from a dig on the street and I walk it out pretty strong and then lean into it after I hit second gear and I pull him every time. He runs consistant 11.2's at the track with drag radials.
