65 396 build ideas??
Maybe you guys can give me some ideas on building this 396 i just puchased, its a 65 325hp, 5961 block, 6206 close chambered heads (completely re-done with double springs), forged 6223 crank, reconditioned rods, Holley cast iron intake, i've got the oil pan, timing cover & balancer, it looks to be a low miled engine, the block was alligned, i've picked out the TRW2240NF pistons to use, compression should be around 9.6, wanting ideas on a cam, thinking about a solid flat tapped, This is what i'm thinking of putting it in once i find one along with other ideas of gearing ect.
75-79 Nova
3.73 gears
28-3200 stall
I mainly want a mild street car that'll run in the 12s on pump 91, so if any of you have some ideas for a strong but milder 396, i'd like to hear them.

.
I ran in the 12's with a 460 and hydraulic cam. Oval ports that were cleaned up a little.
I switched to a solid and it didn't pick up much. Not worth all the extra work.
Not sure about something so small, but don't go crazy. It's the total combination, not just bigger, bigger, bigger.
Good luck.

Here are the #s on the front of the block.
T0802LC 5296250 "now according to someone that sells these old chevy engines, he said the "LC" was the model it was in, an impala 325hp for 65.
There are also #s just below the front intake rail (above the timing chain) that reads L1H6P1
So if anyone can clarify this for me?? Its a 2 bolt main if that helps.

I just talked to my dad, he said some 65 impalas came with a 396 and 4 speed. good motor and sort of rare.

Found a date on the side of the block, 8 23 5, i'm sure this is Aug. 23, 1965, i'm going with the fact its a 65 325hp 396 from a 65 Impala with a 4sp.
I'm looking at the later 75-79 Novas or a Camaro to put it in, there should be plenty of room, i've even thought of getting a 454 block, then making a 427.

Yeah i know, i've thought about selling it, but i need to find the right buyer for a good price, if i do anything with it, it'll just be pistons & cam, & maybe an aluminum intake, but i'll keep the original, i've stored everything in my house except the block, thats in storage, i've narrowed it down to these items for the build if that happens.
TRW2240NF Pistons 9.6-9.8.1
Moly rings
Clevite bearings
Comp.XE CL11-246-3 274/286 Adv. Dur. .552/.555 lift. 1800-6000 Or
Lunati 60203LK 268 Adv. Dur. .542 lift. 1800-6200
Perf. intake, 750 carb.
