Default Found a 98 Z28

Im sure this has been asked a million times here but i will ask again. I have been looking for a 98-02 camaro for some time now and just not been able to do it yet.
I just this week though found a 98 z28 thats been owned by a older female school teacher. It was her car that was just a toy for sometime. No mods at all. Its got 87,000 miles on it. Automatic, no ttops or leather so its pretty basic. Its at a dealer for $4995. Im thinking it can be bought for ALOT less. Its not beat up or trashed and with a good wash and wax the paint will come back really nice im sure. They are selling it as is so im sure there is dealing room. What would be a fair price to offer for it. Also what are some places to worry about on it to look over?

Thanks
Andy

I doubt that. You might get it down ~$500. But unless something is wrong with it, $4-5k is a good price. The dealer will have no problems selling it for that to someone else, if not you.

Something seems strange already at that price. I mean 'cash for clunkers' nets $4500 so what is wrong with this picture? Maybe they had the car before the program started but I'd do a little homework on this car. Is their 'little old school teacher' tale true? Verify it or you could own a potential money pit. Good luck and be smart.

Does seem a little crazy to sell it for that cheap especially with only 87,000 miles on it. How much are you looking to spend on one because im selling my car

It sounds like a good deal to me. You could probably get them
down to $4500. Check for the usual things: Engine noise,
rearend noise, transmission shifting, etc. Also check the carfax.
Good luck.

They are most likly going to stay pretty firm on that price. I got my car 3 years ago with 50000 miles on it from a dealer. It had just one owner befor me and that owner also owned the dealership. I only paid 8500 they wanted 8999. I would not take there school teacher story unless they provide a car fax. Good luck

It's hard to go wrong at that price. Offer 3500 and see what happens : P

it probably was before cash for clunkers. but with that program they destroy the vehicle, maybe the ex owner or the dealer felt pity for the Z

KBB trade in on it is 3700 so i figured same thing to offer $3500 and see what they say. Worst they can do is say no and counter offer.

Thats an awesome price to begin with at 87,000 miles. I guarantee they will come down $500. I would offer $4000 + Tax & title.

Check the dipstick see if the oil smells like gas/anti freeze. Drive the car until it is fully warmed up and see if it acts strange. See if the differential is leaking. Pretty much all the basic stuff when buying a used car.

Good luck.
