Default backyard mech's, how did you pull your carrier bearings off?

I brought my diff into work since I'm about the only guy here tonight, and tried using a bearing splitter with a 2 jaw puller, and cannot get this thing to budge, deformed the bearing retainer pretty good, yet still wont move this inner race.

I need to take the cap off to clean all the fragments out of the diff from when my ring and pinion exploded over the weekend. Diff is a torsen t2r, yes i'm sticking with the 10 bolt.

Anyway, Its starting to look like I have to take it to a shop, but I'd love to hear some success stories and how you've managed to do it. Btw, I don't really have access to any heat here besides a wimpy heat gun.

For really stuck on bearings I would cut the inner race with a cut-off wheel about 3/4 of the way through, be carefull not to cut into the diff! Then use a chisel placed into the groove just cut and hit it with a hammer untill the race cracks. At this point the race should pull off by hand.

Don't use a torch, too much heat in the carrier can make it brittle.

thats actually what I just did, with a dremel, about 1 minute of cutting per bearing, then split it with a screwdriver.

Now i get to open it up and see if i can screw up the diff

i have been unsuccessful with the two jaw puller also. So i use the dremel/chisel method most of the time.

Grinder and chisel. Done many of them this way. it's the only way I could do it. make sure that when you push the new ones back on, use the old race on the bearing so it doesnt' screw the bearing up.

I prolly have a very similar one. It works ok, just dont strain it too hard or the frame kinda gets unsquare
