Default How many miles since you put on the FI on your car?

Having arguement with a few people on other boards that a properly built FI car like mine can't last for say 50,000 miles not counting things like valve spring changes especially if not going to track it more than a couple of times, mostly just going to be in boost for a few seconds at a time,no road racing type of stuff mostly just street driving with a bit of playing and running it at most likely 650 to 800 rwhp with possibly 1000rwhp on dyno for bragging rights.

So lets here from some of you big power guys how long you managed to get your built engine to last before you had to tear it down. I realize a tuning mistake or things maybe like clogged injector could take out and engine prematurely. These guys are mostly saying just the parts in the motor will fatigure from the power requiring rebuild every mabye 20,000 miles tops.
They argue like top fuel dragsters are rebuilt every race.

Am I out to lunch to expect my engine to last 50,000 miles?

Feel free to give me your rwhp or engine hp levels, how many times down the quarter or how much you abuse it with long runs at higher boost levels.
Give as much detail as you can. There is that other thread showing some stock longblocks lasting thru quite a bit of torture. I am more into actual mileage made.
I have about 3000 miles on my FI 408.

If there is no detonation... reliability should not be a problem.

There's almost no real way to tell how long it'll last, there are some stock shortblocks out there lasting a long time and there are some that can't even take stock power....it's in the car now and it realy hauls *** so run it till it blows up...I just hope I'm not racing you when it does LOL

My daily driver Silverado has a single turbo that was installed when it had 27 miles on it. The engine has forged internals and made 850 flywheel hp with 900 ft lbs. Best run was a few years back when it went 11:4X at 5500 pounds. Right now the engine has 98,000 miles on it and sounds a bit like a diesel on idle, but still runs well on and off boost.

I am currently running 10lbs of boost & making right @ 570rwhp with an automatic car , & I put the kit on the car myself ,stock bottom end its got 20,000 miles of boosted spirited driving on it just like ur talking about,it had 60,000 miles on it before the novi2k & I am starting to see some things such as an oil leak coming from the back of the head ,I also ran the car hot 1 day like 260 went into reduced power mode, the heads were not really shaved but. Trued upafter that incident but the aluminum block may have a little warpage,I drive the hell out of it,,so ya its gonna put wear on the engine but highly doubt u are gonna need a rebuild after 20k miles on it unless u had the motor built for na ,high comp, or its just not. Designed for higher than 10 to 12 lbs of boost, u should be. Fine unless ur engine builder didn't or doesn't know wtf he's. Doing & tolerances aren't right u will have to go in & rebuild sooner than expected, I just had erik koeing build me a an iron 402 9 to 1 comp with callies crank, compstar rods, weisco -32 cc pistons arp mainstuds , coated main & rod bearings for longevity & I am expecting 800 + on 14 lbs easy ,he set the tolerances to handle 1krwhp eventhough I don't plan on making 1krwhp ,its not that the motor can't handle the power its the other parts that need to be bullet proofed & @ 3 trannys @ 2k a peice later, I finally had chuck johnson build me one ,no more issues ,its reallly the tq tube & the passngr side.halfshaft, weaklink will be found out if. U plan on drag racing the car with this kinda power on sticky tires, I am like u I may take it to the track 2 times a month ,this is a mom & pop track that doesn't enforce the cage only the helmet, I would say ur motor should be fine 150k + miles I wouldn't be suprised & with an maf tune u don't have to allways be concerned about the weather,it changes here where I live constantly, good luck buddy with ur new found power , I know I am excited about putting my motor in. My c5,the guys on the other forum they actually think ur engines gonna need a rebuild like the top fuelys? Nah I totally disagree, especially if u made the motor for low comp/for boost

You know my set-up! Kit went on at 89k and over 111k now. So 22k of boost = plenty of daily spirited driving (as that is my stress relief before & after work) and plenty of cruising fun with my friends on the weekends. We have had a few track rentals my club did. I hotlapped 8 passes one saturday. Drove it there, drove it home with the A/C on.

While we don't always drive in boost, I tend to like to hear it when driving so I do get into boost a lot as it tends to plaster a smile on my face.

Oh and 538rwhp with this set-up at 7psi.

Miles are pretty much meaningless. My grandma could get it to last 100k miles, and i might have it coughing up blood and spitting out parts in 5k .....so miles are meaningless unless its for warranty reasons. My 99 C5 has 160k miles on the stock clutch and works fine. My last TransAm clutch lasted 20k. Car weight, gears, tune, tire size, how hard its driven, climate its driven in....all effect how many miles a componant will last. And unless your car is bone stock, no two are really alike.

I get on mine pretty good, no track passes. Have the blower installed for 65k+ never a problem. 575/505

Just make sure she isn't knocking...

I'm making way too much power for a stock bottom end... 643, on 9.5 pounds. I will say my tuner (frost) has got the car as safe as possible, and I've been through about 15 gallons of methanol in about 1500-2000 miles.

No track passes yet, just street pulls.
