Default What a shame, cash for clunkers camaro ss

At the local nissan dealer there is a red 1998+ SS camaro that someone cash for clunkered. I called to ask if they would let me swap out the hood or wheels or any of the nicer SS parts and throw some cash their way but they would not agree. I know the car is just going to get smashed anyways and there is no way the govt will realize that those are z28 wheels and hood and not ss ones. It is just a shame.

I thought that '98+ Camaro's didn't qualify for cash for clunkers???

I did not think so either but i asked the guy about it cause it is in the cash for clunkers lot collecting dust with all the other cars and he said it was. So i hit him up with the offer of swapping parts and giving them money but they said no way.

But AFAIK, cash for clunkers gives you money on top of the trade in value...

I was thinking about that to be honest, i am not that type of person at all but this whole program is bullsh*t spending our money like they are anyways. The govt wont have a clue neither would they care. The trade ins are 90% domestic at a nissan dealer so i know where our tax money is going anyways.

There needs to be qualifications for a car to fall into that program. and a LS1 will not because of (below)

I discovered that popping a hood latch from underneath the car is a lot easier than I though. After that remove a few bolts and voila.

If they gave you money on top of GOVs. money , then crush the car where does the extra money come from, the GOV or the dealer?

Seriously dude, find someone shady to take it for you. I'd hate to see authentic SS parts go to waste.

from what i have read, the cars are sold to recyclers and stripped of all good parts that can be sold. the only part they can not resale is the engine.

then the shell of the car is crushed and ground up, then melted down for another part.

there whole purpose is to get the "low mileage engine" off the road.

either way you look at it, all this will do is drive the price of a used car "way up"
