i've owned a Hotcam before, its an ok cam, but to me its worth it to go ahead and spend more money and get a custom cam. you'll be able to get a cam thats sounds just as good (or better) and you'll be able to have a cam that makes more power.
even if you get a Hotcam you'll have to get it dyno tuned in order for it to run right.
try a search, there's plenty of info on the Hotcam.
do it right from the start and i know you'll LOVE having an aftermarket cam in your car!

I'm an ex hotcam owner as well. I always say if you can get it cheap or free, go for it. It it a sweet sounding cam with a nice torque curve. It does need tuned like said. Also a stall to be livable if an auto.
If it's not dirt cheap or free, do spend some time researching other cams. Off the shelf or custom grinds, you can get more power and the thump you're looking for. Just figure out what you want your goal/budget to be.

its a good cam for driveablity, especialy if its your D.D.
one cts-v guys on here has one and his car just sounds like a beast.
You wont get the power of a huge cam but theres a few guys on here that still put down 400+ with some baby cams.

look into pretty much any 224/224 cam or a 228 cam. I have heard that a 228 gives better power and the same driveability as a 224 cam. Are you an auto or M6 because if your auto look into a stall and a shiftkit also.

No it is not a LS6 cam ... there were two LS6 cam the 2001 version and the 2002-2004 version...GM Perfromance Parts have offered a cam for many years called the "hot cam" it is more agressive than the two LS6 cams and it has a nice lope to it when it idles..but it is real old tech compared to what has been developed for the LSx series engines in the last 6 or 7 years... most folks will opt for a more modern design cam that will give them much better performance than the old GM "hot cam"...your mod with a aftermarket cam will be the one that will make the largest HP gains (not counting NOS) and you should do some home work and decide which cam will be the best for your series of engine mods...you need to have a plan for all of your engine mods working together and you will develope more HP and TQ ... do not buy a cam because it is a good deal (low price) buy one that will help you reach your goal because it works with your plan (other mods) to reach your performance goal ... too many guys just buy parts here and there and have no idea on what they are doing over the long run...
