Default how do I attack the spark?

I have a megasquirt 2 v3.0 that I am currently using on my bbc and love.

I would ideally like to keep it but nothing is set in stone.

my problem is : I was gonna use the msd 6010 for the spark but the more I read about it, the more I want to stay far, far away from it.

what are the other options. obviously, Im looking for something inexpensive if it exists. I would like to be able to tune too.

ford edis?
distributor?
modded stock computer?

what works for you guys and how much did it cost?

If you have a good battery and starter, you shouldn't have any problems with the 6010. A lot of the starting problems were because the engine didn't crank over fast quite enough for the box to realize the engine was cranking.

Besides they seem to have fixed most of the problems with the box not firing at crank.

FAST makes an iginition box. A good bit more expensive than the MSD box.

Why can't you use the megasquirt to fire the ignition? I thought they had that option.

it does have that option but It only has two piddly drivers and I have heard they are not up to the task of firing 8 coils sufficiently espe at rpm

do you know a pn for the fast box?

lsmcsss - it seems everyone who has owned one has hated it - plus they say it dies at 5800 rpms

In think this is it

The MSD 6010 boxes have programable rev limiters. i can tell you for a fact they are good up to 6300 RPM. My dash tach was off and I hit the rev limiter the other day.

Once you get the lap top to connect it is just moving dots around on a map. Extremely easy.

Read through this thread. Lots of good info. Just make sure you get the MSD box and not the edlebrock box. The MSD can be tuned with a lap top where as the edlebrock is just through pills.

You can run the stock LSx ignition with the Megasquirt, there is a guy on here with an 8.1 big block in a 69? Chevy truck and he has done it on several engines. Below is some useful info on doing it.
