Spectra Premium in tank pump failing
Anybody having problems with their Spectra Premium in tank pump? Mine will start fine when cold but if you shut the motor off after running a while, when you go to restart you can hear the pump relay pick up but the pump does not run. Other times the pump pressure bounces all over the place. I have also seen it drop to 25 psi while the engine was idling.
Using the Corvette filter/regulator (Napa part) the fuel pressure has never been above 50 pounds.
Any suggestions on what I should replace it with? All the different Walbro numbers (GSS340, GSS 341, GSS 342, etc.) confuse me because I can't find the difference in any of them.

Mine has never made it out of the garage! I just got the engine started the other day. Still have the accelerator cable and exhaust to do yet.
Was the Airtex a drop in replacement? Does it give you sufficient fuel pressure and volume? Is it available from any of the vendors here? Thanks for the info.

I replaced the pump today. I am still showing only 50 pounds of fuel pressure on the fuel rail but that might be the filter/regulator or a cheap gauge. The pressure stayed rock steady so I am happy with the results.
Now I can't get the computer to turn on the fan. It got up to 230 degrees idling, I am making sure that the engine is not air locked and I will be checking wiring and changing the temp sensor next time I can work on the car.
Thanks for everybodys' help!

Did you end up replacing with the Airtex that 69LT1Bird mentioned above? Does it have the same float/sender setup?
I'm getting worried about mine since it hasn't started yet but i've got gas in there already and the tank is installed. Tested it for flow and seemed fine but still concerned about fuel pressure...

Yep, I put the Airtex E3270 in. It is a pump replacement only, not the complete sending unit, etc. While running the car today, the fuel pressure gauge was all over the place, but that could be the filter regulator. If I had it to do over, I would put the Walbro 255 liter pump in.

Almost as sure as the sun rises, my stock Spectra pump failed today. Not even 10 miles yet!
Do you know if the Walbro 255 is a drop-in replacement? It looks like it but wasn't sure from the pics I researched online.

I put the Walbro in yesterday. It went right in with no problems. Be sure to get the install kit with it. It has the proper sock and connector. I had to cut the wires and solder on the new connector. I used heat shrink to protect the splice.

I was just looking at the install kit! Can I trouble you for the link to where you purchased and also the P/N for the kit?
There's a lot of vendors of the 255lph so it's nice to be sure.

Have you guys had any issues with fuel starvation under hard acceleration? I talked to a guy over the weekend that is using a Spectra tank and is having issues.

But I wasn't sure if it was because I'm currently running a 5/16" hard line vs. the 3/8" I should be running. Granted I only have less than probably 5 miles on it over the course of 4 wks of testing my suspension. Once it's running I need to take it to my buddy's shop so i can plumb in the new line.
On a stock motor there shouldn't be as much fuel starvation on a 5/8" line that I was experiencing. There was some serious hesitation. What was weird was that in other times it seem to run fine. That's what makes me think it's a fuel pressure issue. I have heard that fuel pressure bounces around a lot with the Spectra pump.
In any event, it's still a cheaper OEM style tank even if you buy a high flow Walbro 255 imo.

I suspect that my Spectra tank pump/pickup is the culprit for a big hesitation around corners or even stranger, a large rise and then drop in the road. If the tank is full then it doesn't show up, but around half a tank, it shows up again. I am going to pulll some pressure readings off of the fuel rail and see what the pressure is doing under different situations.
