Default 4L70E Specifics? Differences from 4L60E?

Just picked up a 2WD 4L70E out of a trailblazer for my swap into my 67. I searched around a bit but couldn't find any core facts.

Questions:
What are the differences from a 4L60E?
Will an auto LS1 PCM (99+) control this trans? Are any adapters needed?
Is the same converter used?
This will be running is a 2800lb car. How strong will it be for my application in stock form? Is it worth uipgrading to the 80E?

Thanks for your help.

Andrew

The 4L70 has an input(turbine speed sensor) which picks up it's signal from the input shaft. The input shaft and pump cover assembly is different. The internal wiring harness is also different.

The 96 up PCM will control the trans the only electrical difference is the addition of the input speed sensor. The PCM will not know its even there. If this is going in a 2wd aplication you will need to swap the output shaft froma 2wd unit 60/65 E to make it work , If its a camaro style swap you will also need to swap the linkage shaft as the TBSS one will be to long. Other than that its a direct bolt in Converter is the same.
As for strength its comparable to the 65e but no comparison to a built version of any of the three. It is is not a significantly stronger unit or upgrade.

Thanks for the info (both of you). The trans I have is the 2WD version - do I still need to switch the output shaft?

Did you ever end up swapping the output?

Dude, this was six years ago. I'm sure the original poster moved on to other concerns a long time ago. You've got good answers from Performabuilt above and from your other thread. Time for this one to rest in peace.
