Hey Folks-
I'd like to do the long haul in the next 2 years -- what's it cost to do (no including breakage)?

Depending on what your driving/mpg! If you book hotels in advance or TRY and find them the night of the venue or not. It can vary a lot, I didn't spend a ton, but also got to stay with friends/family several nights. I think it was worth every cent though!

The tour is usually around 1200-1300 miles so you have that plus whatever the miles are to get to the start and then back home from the finish..I never book hotels in advance and always seem to find a good deal in every host city...too much planning takes the edge off the road trip buzz ... I like to just go and figure it out on the fly...except for Orlando in 06 as all of those were high priced..some folks camp out..I'm too old for sleeping on the ground and all that...you can spend a lot or a little just depends on how you do it.

We spent $600ish in fuel, and most of the hotels were free due to reward points from my job, but figure around 60-100 a night for hotel for 7 nights. It was worth every penny and then some. Will be doing it again next year!!!!

My brother and i did it for around $1,000 each, and we camped 5 of the nights. and each time we filled up we got around 20 mpg's. we drove 2700 miles from leaving our town to getting back to our town. and yes it was worth every penny :D.

I'm in for 2011 and I'd like to know what to expect to spend as well.
Does anyone who stayed in a hotel/motel every night know the ballpark dollar amount they spent for the entire tour?

About $450 for lodging for the whole tour.

Spent about $1700 the whole trip, 2400 miles from leaving home til return. 70 Camaro only got 15-16MPG, using premium, had 1 free nite at a hotel, plus an extra nite hotel coming home from Mobile. Includes PT shirts, eating out in the evenings, buying food, water from Walmart (made our lunches), plus breakfast at Cracker Barrel a couple of times, little things here and there. I figured $2000 so felt pretty good to be under budget.
But as others have said: PRICELESS!

We spent about $1200 total on hotels during the trip (12 nights in nicer hotels). We spent I'd say a solid $400 on gas (24mpg and 3000 miles). Food I didn't really factor in because you're going to eat regardless of where you are. I'd say plan for 2 grand on the full trip depending on where you stay, what your driving (mileage wise) and what you eat.

I'd agree that $2k is a good budget to plan on. I haven't gone back to look at all the charges on my credit card to figure out what I actually spent. The experience was priceless, so I don't care to know the exact figure.

Definitely. Experience is worth it alone. I'll have memories I'll never forget...And some times I cant remember... :)

You can't put a price on just how much fun it really is. Even my wife enjoyed the time spent and all the different places we saw. I think total, we spent about $1,900. That's all our food, hotels, fuel, t-shirts etc.
Also, I only booked one hotel for the first two nights in Newton. The rest of the trip we winged it the entire trip and had zero problems finding a room.
Can't wait until 2012!

Yep if you have problems for whatever reason finding a room, just start down the route and find a place. Always can meet up with the crew again the next day!
Definitely looking forward to 2012!

People have lawn chairs out on their front yards with a cooler and watch the 3 hour parade of cars go by. :D

That was the best parts of the Tour. Every small town we went through there were folks sitting in their yards or standing at the 4 way stops. :D
