Default Another Turbo camsgaft thread !!

Hi all just after opinions on these cams, as to wether they would be suitable for my turbo setup

383 strocker
ported heads
Single TC78 @ 16 psi boost

current cam is a mild comp turbo grind
220/208 .554 / .564. 115 lsa

Looking at a couple of Kelford cam grinds

230/238 .600/.600 116 lsa
or
236/248 .610/.610 115 lsa

I'm after something with a reasonably tough sounding idle and great drivability/ street manners and a bit more top end then my current cam.

Have heard the 230/238 it sounded great and drove well on a 5.7 but is sold as a blower cam, will it still work well on my turbo setup ?

Epp blower cam 232/240 .595 .608 115 lsa

Pretty close to the first kelford cam

yes would be keen, just would work out quite a bit dearer and probably take 3 weeks to get here going by past experience, New Zealand is a long way/echange rate/shipping/import duty, yada yada.

I like either one. I'm running a 242/248 .624/.624 on a 115 in mine.

John have you logged any BP #'s?? If so I would check that before you start going real big on a cam. Too much duration with elevated BP and you will get reversion.

I like the look of that 230/238 cam for your setup. Maybe one step smaller. Like a 226/232.

I like the 230/238. I suspect the bigger one would push the rpm range above what the T78 would support.

Good point ! back pressure is already a problem for sure.
If i can't get a bigger AR housing,I will look at a bigger turbo at some point.
Looking back i think 383 was a bad move for this turbo, much better suited to std cubes.

Don't want to go to big, just my current cam is pretty small, idles like std
and would like a bit more mid range top end.
I have the engine open at the moment to replace an oil pump, so would be easy to do the cam while i'm in there.

Don't kick yourself too hard. My 388/T76 has gone 146 mph in the quarter at 3800 lb and only 17 psi. It will go over 22 psi if I want.

drill and tap a hole in the turbo manfold then run a line to a boost gauge, then take it for a blast and moniter gauge reading.

1 to 1 , 1 psi of backpressure to 1 psi of boost would be considered very very good, most setups would be more like 2:1 and 3:1 would be considered high

I can't be happier with my little 215/215, .566''/.566'', 114* Isky. Just ran 10.33@129MPH in a 4950LB 4x4 truck. 1.42 60' off the foot break. 370CI, TC76, hand ported 317's.
