Default Is there a way to tell if you have ls6 heads instead of ls1

A buddy of mine claims his friend said his ls1 has ls6 heads. How would they be able to tell?

very, very, very rare. but if its an 02' its possible it could have come with 243 heads from factory, unless the guy before him threw the heads on there. if he bought car used.

No, it's not possible. This is inaccurate information that does not need to be spread on the internet worse than it already is. This topic has been beat to death. Some 02 cars came with the LS6 block ONLY. Absolutely NONE of them came with 243 heads or an LS6 cam. PERIOD.

To the OP, look at the casting # on the front corner of the head. If it says 243 or 799, it's an LS6 head. Anything else, is not.

He just told me the guy was able to tell by just looking at the heads so is there a way to tell by not looking at the casting number or is my friend just lying?

It's very easy by looking at them, as the 243 casting number is on the lower right side (outside of the valve cover). The other possible way to see a difference is the exhaust ports. LS1 ports are round, LS6 are D shaped.

The 243 casting number...it's right there at the front of the head on the driver's side. If its not a 243, then its not an LS6 head. Called a guy out at car meet back when the LS6 first came out, who was bragging to all the Mustang guys that he dropped an LS6 in his SS. Asked him if a shop did it, because they ripped him off then, as he had 241 heads on his car. He left shortly after that.

man forget what those guys said. the easiest way to tell is to look at the fenders. if it's got a Z28 then it's 241 or 853 but if it's got a ZO6 then its 243 for sure. hope that helps
