Default Welding A Rollbar To The Plates

I'm getting ready to weld my rollbar in the car. I've found some good mounting points for the 6x6 plates, but how close can I get the edge of the rollbar to the edge of the plate? The main hoop comes very close to the edge of the side panel, so it's going to be difficult to get the bar away from the outer edge of the plate. Right now I might have 1/2" - 3/4" or so without bending the plate up at a 90 degree to match the sides of the car, which would be a pain in the *** without a gas torch to heat it up.

Is there a minimum distance I need to maintain to keep the bar centered in the plate? Is it an NHRA requirement of any kind, this is for 10.00-11.50 bracket fwiw.

Any help is appreciated.

You can have it off center. As long as its on the plate you are fine.

ive seen it done before where the plates were on an edge or something and it was just cut and then welded back in place after being put on the edge instead of bending it up the curve. but my front runners are right on the edge of the plates so.-tony-
