Default Help with 1000+ hp engine.

Hello

I have only tuned euro and japanese cars earlier and want to build a high performance v8 now.

I want to build a 1000+ hp v8 engine. What engine do you guys suggests to start the building from ? I want to have Iron cast block, Is there any engine you don´t have to replace everything ? I plan to replace the pistons and rods but want to use the std crank and heads for example.

So please help me wgat std endinge should I buy to build on ?

Get with Shawn at Virginia Speed or Erik at HKE. They do some good builds. But basically if you are wanting to keep the stock crank and heads I believe you are limited to around 1200 at the crank if I remember correctly. Get the 6.0 truck engine that comes stock with the 317 heads. Put a good set of rods and pistons in it. Do some mild head work and put in good valves/springs. ARP main studs and head studs. Boost until you hit your goal. Have fun.

yeah a truck LQ4 would be the way to go if you cant afford an aftermarket block. Like the previous post said head and main studs forged rods and pistons, and a real good tune. The downfall of the LQ4 and most any other LS series block is that the 4 bolt heads start to lift and push coolant out at + or - 1000 rhwp. I have seen people that have gotten more but they say it requires a real good tuner.

I guess we should ask if he means 1000 at the crank or the wheels? 1000 at the crank and there should be no issue with lifting heads with a good tune.

Shawn at Virginia Speed is the guy you want to talk to to have him set up your engine the way you want it. they build some sick stuff.

he knows a thing or two about good engines

You just need to buy a built motor from the various sponsors on this board. Or build your own maybe.
You need a 6.0 iron block pretty cheap for the block. Stock cranks as said are pretty strong, some good rods and of course pistons. Lots of good parts to choose from there.
1000 engine is more doable than 1000rwhp. And still plenty of power.
317 heads are ok but may lift depending on tuning mostly. Keeping timing down is think the key to the stock heads. Aftermarket like afr or trik flo are much better .

Thanks again

Are the pistons and rods the same as for the ls1 engine ?

Rods yes, pistons no. Engine is much bigger cubes pistons are different.
Just start looking thru the sponsors stuff to the right of the forum.

I would start with building a 500-600hp engine. Drive the car into the bottom 10s. Then decide if you are ready for 1000hp.

It costs an extra $20k to go from 10.0 to 9.99 in the quarter mile. Any real racer knows this lol.

In case you didn't know, there is some knowledge about LSx-engines in Sweden also. Check this:

I have a similar goal.. Maby not a 1000, but 5-700rwhp ls1 turbo. I was thinking of building it with stock ballanced crank, new rods and maby CP pistons. ls6 intake. maby go with a edelbrock victor JR. Still don know if the parts last but i will try.. If i blow it, to hell with it sugestions?

There is allot of folks in sweden witt allot of experience.. and i would say that some of them makes better engienes than many over there..

why do people think he doesn't know what hes getting into it kills me when people dont know anything about someone and want to say things like your getting ahead of yourself and see if you like 600 or 700hp b4 u try 1000.he said what he wants why do u question the man?give him the benefit of the doubt i see this alot on this site im sure he knows it takes alot of money to make these kind of hp#.u dont need 20k to go from 10s to 9s mild turbo setup 650 to the wheels and u can spray a 150 shot that will get u n the 9s and it doesnt cost 20k rant over.good luck

I say its pretty cheap to build v8. Pistons, rods, heads are cost nearly nothing. The japcar I have now only a new head cost about 2 560Usd for a std Stroker kit 8 600Usd. I will check the sponsorcompanys.

I thinking to build a single turbo v8 I think it´s pretty cool ! What do you think about that ?
