Default Fuel pump help

Hey guys, Im pretty sure my fuel pump is on its way out. It sounds like its not priming all the way, and it rough to start. But driving around its fine??? Im going to change the fuel filter tomorrow, see if it helps. If i do need to get a new one, which one should i get? And id like to do the trap door mod too. Im in Orange btw.

I've used the Racetronix pump with the Hot Wire Kit, I believe it's called.

What you need to do is hook up a fuel pressure guage (I've got one) and monitor the fuel pressure at prime, idle, and WOT under load. That will tell you if you need a new pump or not. My stock pump went bad and I got the Racetronix pump kit stated in the post above. Great kit. I too did the trap door method, only way to do it IMO. Let me know if you have any questions.

A small square foot hole that will never be seen and has no affect on anything...not to mention makes future pump swaps/changes almost effortless. I've done it both ways...after doing the trap door method, why anyone would drop the tank is beyond me.

It's peace of mind. some people just like to cut, some people just like to drop the rear end. The end result is the same; minus give or take a couple of hours.

Yeah, pretty much. I'd rather save time...both now and in the future.

Don't be a pansy...just cut it.

OP, you can look at my trap door and make the decision for yourself.

Alex cut the trap door in my car and instead of bending the factory sheet metal back, just cut a hole outright. I finished it off with a piece of sheet aluminum over it and it is held down by 3M double-stick foam tape, and weatherstripping in the one spot that needs it. No extra noise, no extra fumes in the cabin, no water entering the cabin - nothing. It still looks exactly the same as the day it was installed... 6LiterEater has the same trap door with sheet metal panel (affixed by 3M tape) in his car - but his is painted.

Here's mine (now hidden by sound deadening):

I love cutting up my car, If you see anything that I missed without having the car fall apart let me know.

Should probably change the fuel filter before you change the pump..

Trap door method is a good idea, but I would rather drop the tank instead of chopping a hole in my trunk. If you have a decent fuel pump it doesn't go out that often..
