Exclamation If you weld or use chemical cleaners, READ THIS!!

Please read this. It's scary! I also sent this to some folks via email, so I apologize if you are seeing it more than once. It's worth a second look in any case

Exclamation

Just got a link to that recently on a local F-body board, & it's scary as hell. Good job posting it up here, it's crazy how a dumb little 2-second mistake can jack you up for good...

Phosgene is one of the poison gasses they shot at each other in WWI.

WOW I go through alot of break clean washing down stuff and sometimes lots of cans at a time. I new it was prob. nasty but not like that, never read or new the seriousness of the gasses it can turn into. Hmm I have gone through a couple cases over the past few months of that crap and even though I got really sick of swine flu like for a few weeks. I have had sinus infection for nearly as long now on week 15? wonder if breathing all those vapors has affected me too. There are some other symptoms too that i have experienced so who knows.

Good to know thanks for passing this on, I for one will be changing my ways with the stuff for sure.

Wow! I regularly spray off backing plates with beake clean before welding the grooves made by the brake shoes, guess I won't be doing that anymore! Thanks for sharing this.

Yikes! Phosgene is nasty shizzle. Thats also why they stopped using refrigerant leak detectors that used open flame. If you burn r-134a you can produce phosgene.

Guys this can sneak up on you fast. My brother was welding on a chassis and I was using brake cleaner and electric clean. The combination of welding, grinding and using brake cleaner on the chassis being welded caused a deadly combination. My brother was welding low to the floor and was unaware of the fumes that were collecting in the shop. I remember standing up and about choked to death in seconds. I normally don't get to excited but this got my attention after I collected myself. My brother said we had created Phosgene and Chlorine gasses. Phosgene gas can be produced is some cases when welding galvanized metals. Be careful guys, especially if more than one person is working in the shop area with these chemicals.

Wow what a scary article. Just reminds you to pay attention and read all the directions and labels before you begin using something.

Very scary article. And thats just the fumes that let you know up front. What about the fumes that take months or years for the damage to show.

For example welding near painted surfaces that see smoke.

Very scary! I use brake cleaner and weld everyday. Time to start reading labels.
