Default Cats below threshold?

I had Auto Zone check my SES light and it said both my cats were below threshold. What are my options other than replacing the cats? Can I run an ORY to the stock manifolds or do I have to have headers? I know I can just cut the cats off and weld a pipe in but it will still throw a code. I plan on putting LTs and an ORY on eventually so there's no need to buy cats now and throw them away in a few months.

before doing all that, try replacing your rear O2 sensors. i had that same code and that was my problem. on the other hand if you plan on doing LTs, you may as well get them tuned out.

I've replaced the 02s already. If I can run an ORY with the stock manifolds, that's the route I'm probably going to take but I need to know for sure before I try.

If you don't mind the light, you can still drive with the cats below threshold if your lucky.

If you are getting driveability probems (like a cork in the exhaust) you can get an ORY for stock manifolds. Walker exhaust # 88028.

I have never heard of that, unless the code was coupled with 02 codes... They are obviously working if it will relay to the computer that the cats arent doing what they should be.

I have done fuel injection cleaning on cars and cleared trouble codes you are describing. expecially when they are direct fit converters costing 1200 dollars to install... The service runs around 100 dollars and benifits in many other ways, success rate for clearing converter codes is probably 75% or higher!

It's definitely the cats, starting to smell a little now. Gonna throw some LTs and an ORY on it when I get my pell grant check back.

bingo, just as I said (Almost like I know what Im talking about) Another footnote on cats is that a Cat with VERY VERY RARELY go bad without an engine issue.. Rich condition, lean condition, burning antifreeze.. for it to either melt the cat, or contaminate it... furether investigation is required for proper repair... I know you didnt want to hear that.....

i am having the same issue, i have a scanner that shows live data. there is some tests you need to perform to determine what is throwing the code. i have not yet done this, but i will let you know how it turned out.

Just ordered some Pacesetter LTs and ORY from Maryland Speed about 45 minutes ago. I'll also be putting in new plugs and wires when I do the headers.
