Default o2 Sensor replaced, SES light still on?

Went to VIP the other day since my SES light came on, they scanned it for me and said that my Bank 1 o2 sensor was dying.

Replaced the o2 sensor today. I assumed it was the one ahead of the cat, in the exhaust manifold.

SES light is still on.

Can Bank 1 also refer to the sensor after the cat?

What was the code? Bank 1 refers to drivers side, sensor 1 is precat, sensor 2 is post-cat.

It was P0140...post cat.

All makes sense now.

Dumb mistake for sure. Ah well, only takes a few minutes to fix. I just assumed the guy at VIP knew what he was talking about.

If you are going to re-install the sensor, don't forget anti-seize compound!

the pcm stores the code, it wont just "turn off"

It's a high temp lube, makes removal easy for the next time. And the light should clear itself after some time if you don't clear it.

If the sensor works correctly for several cycles the SES light will go off. The record of the failure code will remain in the ecm, however, until cleared.

anti-seize compound = same stuff you use for spark plugs...

Sensor 2 = downstream, so you'll have to fix that, but note that you will have to clear the code after or drive it for a while before the code goes away.

this happened to my 2000 ss. it may not be the sensor, but the cat. my cats dont convert anymore and that throws off the rear o2 sensors, so thats what the code will be. if you still have the same code after replacing the sensor, then thats what it is.

Also make sure you get a rear o2 sensor for the rear most are different from the pre-cat since they are behind the cat and take longer to warm up.
